Anyone ever been? Cities to see? As of now I just know it's beautiful country.. what should I look for? and what type of weather should I expect August or Septemeber?

Ive been to Inverness and the isle of sky.. The isle of sky is great if you can see the whole island. And inverness is right next to loch ness. The funnest part of the highlands is basically just being there.

Welllll, you pick the number of days and you can fill it in the Highlands! Three would be the barest of minimums...and almost result in you not really getting to the highlands much at all.
I spent 5 weeks in Scotland quite some time ago, most of it in the highlands. My favorite part are the Hebrides...the Isles of Mull and Skye were my two favorites. The scenery is just breathtaking, the castles are great, the people are friendly, and the weather...well, it's Scottish weather. Expect rain, at least a bit of it. It pretty much rained half the time I was there, then when my friend went there a couple years later, he got no rain at all. So, you never know. But waterproof your boots really good, and bring along rain gear.
You asked about cities, but really the only city in the highlands is Inverness, which is a nice base to explore Loch Ness and the surrounding area. It's getting out in the countryside that you really experience the highlands...

Sounds like a great trip. Admittedly, most of my limited perception of the Scottish Highlands comes from Mel Gibson, but from what I know it definitely seems like a place where one could lose one's self. There's something very unique in the feeling of hiking in mountains with nobody else around. Uh oh, waxing philosophical.

Um hey,
Dont forget to g to fingalls cave off of mull, its even better than the giants causway. August will be perfect. If you go to skye definately go the old man of storr if you leave it until late september theres a great party and laser light show to music all the way up. Go to lewis as well. Yea ok ill shut up now.

Well I was planning 3-4 months hopefully.. if all the money comes out right... lets cross our fingers on that one... so I'm planning as a 3 month trip now... I'm sticking to Western Europe (I'm thinking).. I know... expensive.. bah.. I was thinking a month to see UK, Ireland, Scotland.... then 2 months for Portugal, Spain, France, Italy... and Germany.. does this sound reasonable.. or am I trying to fit to much in at once?
