Just a little travel warning for those of you headed to Ireland:

Cool

Ha ha, I think it's a reactionary measure to the fact that more Irish speak English than Gaelic now. In fact, I think Gaelic is actually becoming extinct there, like Latin.

Now, seeing as how there is still lingering resentment from the Irish & Scottish against the English for all their past invasions - they are probably not too pleased with this linguistic ownage.

Well, under English rule, the use of Gaelic was banned in Ireland.. so the language had to go underground for a while. Now they're concerned that the language will die since so few young people speak it.. I really hope that this signage thing will be a good start for its revival. It's really a beautiful language, and it'd be a shame for it to join the ranks of "dead languages" like Latin, etc.

Speaking of which - does anyone know where I can find a Gaelic pronunciation key online?

I think that is kind of cool. They did the same thing in Malta with Maltese. Thought they have two official languages (maltese/english) they have made sure to perserve Maltese by making it manditory in schools, all signs, etc. They are determined not to let their language die, and I think thats awesome!

Apparently, there are different versions of Gaelic - Irish Gaelic, Scottish Gaelic, etc.
