Pictures always speak louder than words, so feel free to peruse my pics from my trip to the UK & Ireland last year:

Pick on 'World Tour' at:
http://davihan.bravepages.com/
(which will automatically redirect you to: http://members.lycos.co.uk/davihan/)
Then select 'UK & Ireland 2002'

(Note: Preferably use Internet Explorer, not Netscape.)

It's still in work, so keep checkin back!

Great pictures Voyd!

Pictures are from various world tours that he took throughout the past several years in China, Mexico, UK and Ireland.
I especially liked the one called "leap sheep" where it appears to be a wolf leaping over an actual sheep (leap frog style)! Did you do that with Adobe Photoshop?! It´s pretty funktified!

Check it out folks! Here´s a direct link to his photos page- http://members.lycos.co.uk/davihan/wtour/iwtour.htm (use the drop-down menus at the top to navigate through his site)

I encourage all visitors to share photos, tips, and experiences, for the benefit of all present and future backpackers, budget, and world travelers.

Thanks again and I´ll be sure and hit you up for suggestions if I ever get a chance to head out to China.

Hey Voyd,

I went to your webpage and viewed your pics. Umm okay I think you copied me! I took almost the exact same route in the summer of '01. I stayed at the derrylahan hostel, had my picture taken beside the scotland/england rock, saw the caenarvon sunsets. hmmm...

hehe good pics. aah and the memories flood back.

Welcome to the boards, Crionnact!

Yeah, cool pix, huh?! Voyd´s at it again, roaming through Europe on bus. I´d imagine he´ll set us up, when he´s got a chance, with the latest photos. I hope so, anyways

Don´t forget to bring a camera yourself on your first time backpacking so we can see the world through your perspectiveB)

crionnacht - thanks! Well, I found the hostels I stayed at in the UK & Ireland to be better on average than in Western & Central Europe. So, you should be fine. Just make sure you reserve hostels in advance in the big busy cities like London.
I stayed at many hostels obviously, but I think Castle Rock hostel in Edinburgh was my fav. So when are you leaving for your trip?

Tone - Yup just got back with a memory card full of pix! I'll have them up on my site "shortly..."

voyd -- i am leaving in february of next year. I am going to try and get a working visa for when I am over there. i am working full time until then and trying to save my money! There's a possibility that I am travelling with a girlfriend of mine, but if she can't go then i am just going to go by myself. either way it will be a fab experience. i really want to stay at the flying pig when I am in amsterdam. I'll have to make reservations and it will help that I am not travelling in the high season. my ex-boyfriend says that europe is really really expensive, so I am saving like crazy! thanks for the money adivce, too!

crionnacht - what is your itinerary? Where all do you plan on going?

I don't know that Europe is "really really" expensive. You will definitely pay a premium in many of the metroplexes, tourist meccas or resort towns, but that's the same in the States. Other places can be surprisingly cheap. For example, I bought a nice sweater in Berlin for only 8 euros that I wore for the whole rest of the trip!

PS - Amsterdam and Paris are 2 other cities you'll want to pre-book hostels at. Of course, be careful about making too many reservations cuz then u kinda lock yourself into a schedule...

As far as money, just be sure you bring a few credit or ATM cards with sufficient cash withdrawal limits.

That's a heavy duty itinerary, Crion. How long will you be backpacking for?

And, where are the new pics, Voyd?

Well that fiasco was quick !

As far as your trip is concerned, go as long as you can! But, be wise with your money from the beginning whilie not depriving yourself of anything that you really want to do/eat/see/etc...
Say, for example, you're in any given city for a week or more, set a day or two where you will splurge! Frugal for 5 days, sandwiches and beer/water. Then fine dining and a play/nightclub, etc...

In Ibiza (popular island in the Mediterranean), normal club entrance fees can be $50Euros ($58US dollars)! Not to mention drinks!

Clubbing in Madrid? Rum and Cokes were $6-$9! Way more than LA!

Party like that a few nights a week and you'll be "so broke that you can't even pay($$) attention."

4 months(120 days) x $50(Euro/$80Canadian) a day=$6,000Euro/$9,600Canadian

You've got plenty of time to save.
As a suggestion, have your mom/dad/anyone, buy you things that you'll need for your trip as your birthday/Christmas/good grades/etc... presents.
Examples of their presents can be a plane ticket, Eurail ticket, a backpack, shoes, a digital camera, etc..then YOUR money can go to - good times B)

Enjoy the new apartment !

Voyd- the movie is coming along slowly. I have to first set up my editing equiptment. That should happen within a week or so. Get off your but and post those pictures ! hahaha
