I think I already know what your advice will be – but I’m askin’ anyway.
My boy and I are considering taking a random and super expensive last minute trip to Amsterdam over thanksgiving weekend.
We’d fly out Wednesday morning and come home the following Sunday. That amounts to 3 nights and 4 days, at the cost of $2300 including flight and hotel. We still need money for food and a little shopping so we’re estimating about $3000 total for the trip. I know it’s kind of insane, but after this next trip to Thailand, it’s gonna be at least a year before I can leave again – AND the main reason I’m interested in this trip at this time is because I have heard rumors for a while that there was to be a new law banning public marijuana smoking in A’dam – the rumor I heard claimed that January 1, 2005 was the date this new law would finally take hold. I’d like to go and enjoy the charm of smoking my weed free and clear while sipping delicious milk coffee… at least once more.
Have you guys heard anything about this rumor and it’s potential validity? Get back to me, kids! Part of me, the smart part maybe – says: what a waste of $3k, you could both tour Burma and Malaysia for a month on that budget – the other part, the rare part of me – says: fuck it, you’re young… only live once – and potentially may never be able to smoke weed in De Kuil coffee shop again!
I’m dying for feedback – quickly, quickly now.

hi honey-- wow, what a last-minute thing! Personally, I would save my money for a different trip. Also-- you've already been to Amsterdam. Is the weed THAT important? As lovely as that sounds, I think I would save the money for either another trip later next year or maybe just spend more money on your big trip to Thailand.

yeah, the more I think about it... 3k seems like an awful lot for 3 nights/4 days to a city you've already experienced, especially when you'll hardly have time to deal with the jet lag and when you consider the limitations it'll put on you farther down the road.

Well, there are other places you could smoke out fairly freely, I'm sure. Carribean or Latin America maybe, anyone?
And you can even smoke in hemp shops in Canada (just can't buy/sell it there). So, you have to BYOP. Maybe not as nice a scene or convenient as A-Dam, but for a fraction of the price...
Basically, I'd verify the rumors and check out some other options before jumping the gun.
But perhaps the bigger question is how big a pothead are you if you are willing to pay $3Gs for a "last smoke in A-Dam?"

hell, maybe i won't.
maybe i will - maybe i wont.
maybe i will - maybe i won't.
i want to - haha.

Here Joanie baby this is what I found for you....
Dutch Ban on Smoking Hits Pot Businesses
Although it is a year old it basically says you can't smoke in the buildings. Tought break dear.
This guy posted this on Marijuana.com
"I read a letter written by Nol Van Schaik on another website somewhere, (he owns many coffeeshops in Holland) and he addressed the smoking ban issue by saying that it would only be enforced in coffeeshops if the employees there demanded a smoke-free workplace....but that they wouldn't, because you usually have a smoker working at a coffeeshop. Even then if the employee did demand a smoke-free workplace, he said that glass dividers or something like that would be set up in order to meet the conditions of the legislation."
Here is another site about it

see, that's just the law i heard about!
it took effect a year ago technically, but people rallied to extend it a year:
that being January 1, 2005!
i'm headed over then, right? damn - it is a lot of flow though...

While I am all about impulses and think that that is what makes life interesting in the future, I still advise that this trip is a little more reckless than most impulses.
Still....DON'T LISTEN TO BELLE!!!! She is a crazy farm girl!!
and jake... well he is a mic fiend.

It'll be legal here eventually, just wait it out. In Canada even sooner.
Impulsiveness is fine and good, but not at the expense of someting greater like a bunch more time in Thailand. But hell, what do I care? Id love to see some stoned joanofarc pics.

Um Hey,
I dont know if this image will come across but, i was there for a couple of nights last month. I was just thinking that depending on your tastes this show at the hieniken Music Hall on the 27th might bring increased meaning to your trip for an additional 10 euro. I was choked that i couldnt be there.

Yours
