 My friend and I are gonna be traveling in Europe this august before we study in Italy in the fall. Flying into London, staying about a week, hitting other places in the UK for another week, and then 2 weeks in Ireland/rest of Western Europe. I was looking through my book at some places on England's southern coast and in Scotland, but i'd appreciate any recommendations of where to go besides London. Heard the Lake district was nice, also wanna see Edinburgh. Also, for 2 weeks in the UK, recommended to buy any kind of rail/bus pass or just buy individual tickets? First time organizing this kind of trip for myself, so any advice is appreciated. god damn this is gonna be fun.

Hey there stratocaster!!!!
I reckon you should try to check out cornwall. It's sooo nice down there, but a bit hard to travel around unloess you have a car.
Glasgow is ment to pretty damn cool. I live in the uk, and have not yet made it up to Glasgow. Liverpool and Manchester are top places too.
But I would definetly see the lake district. and buy rail passes, hell of alot cheaper!!!

Hi Stratocaster,

I agree with Beady on Cornwall. If you're into hiking, there is a path that goes all the way around the coast called the Cornish Coastal Path. You can get a nice, detailed map and walk as much or as little as you want. The bus service is okay, there, so you should still be able to get around. Cornwall has great little seaport towns, castles, amazing coastal scenery...it's great.

My favorite area in Britain, though, is Scotland -- particularly the west coast and islands. The scenery is dramatic, the history is all around, and the people are real friendly. Mull was my favorite island, followed by Skye.

Thanks for the replies... I think we decided Scotland would be a cool place to go after London. Planning on staying at the Generator for about a week, so I'm thinking we might feel like taking it a little easier for a bit haha, get some hiking in maybe... i didnt see the isle of mull in my guidebook tho ww mike... wheres that at?

Mull is on the west coast of Scotland, one of the island chain called the Inner Hebrides. To get there, I took the ferry from Oban, Scotland. If you find that town, you should see Mull. Do some reading on it, though, as it HAS been almost two decades since I've been there...!

Two decades since my five weeks in Scotland?! Where has time gone? It seems only a couple years ago the three of us were zooming along through the night on mopeds, with me checking over my shoulder to make sure the werewolves weren't gaining on us...
