Default Scuba diving?

hey, i'm going to be going to europe for 3 months, in like 2 weeks! i've been reading up about diving, i want to see some of the shipwrecks. but it seems that certifications are needed in most places. i've gone diving a couple time before but it was in mexico so i didn't need any papers. is there anywhere that i can see some wrecks without having to get accredited? thanks!

Have you looked at getting NAUI/PADI certified? I got my NAUI license through my University and it was reasonably cheap ($100 bucks or something). If you aren't certified I really strongly recommending that you don't go down very deep. For example, if your regulator comes out or your mask gets kicked off by another diver (or both) can you handle that underwater? If the answer isn't a confident "yes", I think you are taking a risk.

I think shipwrecks are actually only for PADI advanced divers, so I think you should look into certification....

I've always been amazed that there are places that will let you dive without a certification...I even had to have one in Jamaica.

Anyway, I'd definitely recommend you get certified, it isn't hard and I thought it was useful. If you're just looking at wrecks you probably don't need to do the Wreck Diver certification but if you want to go in or under them it's a good idea.

One way to do it might be to do the classroom and pool work at home, then go your open water dives when you go to Europe. Most dive operators will do your 2 open water dives for a small fee.

Thanks for the replys, it looks like I do need my PADI and another cert for deep diving/hazardous stuff. No time to get it since I'm leaving Sunday, oh well. Next time for sure. Yeah, no cert needed in Mexico, it was kind of shady I guess, the guys English wasn't too good and there were some people that freaked out because they didn't equalize the pressure on the way down. Really pretty and cheap though.
