Hello again! Ireland FOR REAL?
Hello all!
So I'm dropping in once more...whyyyy? Because unlike past attempts to get out of this beautiful country of mine for a nice new experience, which have all gone awry, I might ACTUALLY be going to Ireland.
What makes this attempt different? I'm not taking anyone, therefore the only way I can fail is through my own fault, as compared to EVERY other time when my travel buddy let me down. Bitter much?
Haha so ya I'm thrilled. I'd be going for an archaeology field school :D It's right next to Achill near Galway. YAY! Anyone every been to Achill or Galway? Tell me all about it!
It's in May or June, I have the choice. And around $8000, I figured..........which includes absolutely everying. Alot of money. $650/month rent is not any help, so I'm having to move back home in order to save for it.
Anyway, just thought I'd express my excitement to more people. Wheeee!
Cheers,
Kelly

and if you spend a whole month there, you might be able to sneak away for a weekend to somewhere else in Europe or tack a little vacation onto the end of your school

Thanks Diorama!
Well I was considering going for an extra month to work and such, but I hadn't even thought of doing it outside of Ireland. That's definitely something to consider.
I realized the weirdest thing...I had always thought that traveling from Dublin to Galway would be like from Kelowna to Vancouver, but I just checked the km and it's like from here to Kamloops - like 2 hours! Much better. I was just trying to see if I'd save money by landing in Dublin rather than Galway....and it turns out I'd save about $300. YAY!
Haahaa just thought i'd fill ya in.

That's really cool!! And if I remember correctly, the bus fare from Dubin to Galway with a student card is like 14€!!!
Galway is by far my most favourite city in Ireland. It's just beautiful, and a great spot to go everywhere else in Ireland from.
Have fun!

It might look that way on the map but thanks to terrible Irish roads it'll take at least 3 to 3 and a half hours but still not that bad.
I've been to the adventure centre on Achill island years ago. All I remember about Achill is being freezing cold and wet.

Are you staying in Galway city? That's a bit pricey. That's the bottom end of the scale for renting a house in the countryside. That's a full 3 bedroom house and usually you'd be sharing that cost with 2 other people. I pay €320 for a one bedroom apartment in a small town which would be about the cheapest.

3 hours still isn't 6! Hahaha
I'm just glad it's cheap to move around. What time of year did you go to Achill, MeTurk?
No no no I meant here in BC. I live in Kelowna, Canada's second most expensive city after Vancouver. BLAAAAH $650 CAD/month for a one-bedroom place is about as cheap as it gets out here. And that would be why I'm moving home.
Does anyone know if it would be worth it to try and see Norway, Sweden, and Finland in the course of a month, or just try to get to know one or two of them?
Thanks,
Kelly
