Default London

I am going to be adding my London tips as i think of them. I've lived in London all my life and love it, but it is very expensive, even to londoners, unless you know the cheap ways to get around things.

my first and most important money saving tip is

GET AN OYSTER CARD!!

if your in london and plan on getting a few buses and trains around, head to your first underground station and go to the counter and ask for an oyster card. its a pay as you go travelcard that lasts as long as you want, you top it up at the ticket machines across london. it costs £3 for the card, but heres an idea of savings:

bus trip without oyster - £2 (i know what a fucking rip off)
with oyster - £1
trains you save lots of money also.

you dont need a photo or anything, just ask at the counter. well worth it to save some money. plus a quick hint to save more, on your last ay if you have to get a long tube journey to the airport, put the minimum train fare on the card, (i think its £1.50) and when you get off there wont be enough money for your journey so it will go into the minus. it only works if you have the minimum on though ( i will find out what this is) if you wont use the card again its a good way to save a few quid

one other tip also, if you dont ring in when you enter a station but ring out at the end of your journey it charges you £4 flat fee. if your journey is gonna be more than that dont ring in if the barrier is open. yougetme!

TRAVELLING TO AND FROM LONDON TO OTHER UK CITIES

www.megabus.co.uk is your freind - book online at a hostel or cafe and you can get seats for £1 if you book early enough. if its last miniute thing its still dirt cheap - a few quid more.

www.nationalexpress.co.uk also use this if your booking in advance - click on the funfare option (under 'how to save') if you book at certain times you can get around for £4 these coaches are posher than the megabus!!

if your travelling to Oxford from London, the best way is either a national express fun fare (£8 return i think) or at victoria station you will see the Oxford Express. very very nice posh coaches with FREE POWER SOCKETS AND WIFI and FREE COFFEE ON WEEKDAY COMMUNTER MORNING ROUTES. safe!about £10 return, open dated ticket and buses are 24hour between both cities.
