Hi,

i plan to go to travelling around western europe in June, so it will be mostly hot and so i will bring summer clothes.

However, i also want to go to Interlaken and see other mountain areas, so it will be cold there.

So how do people accomodate taking winter clothes as well. I was thinking i got take some tights so i could put under my trousers. But what about hat, scarves and mainly a decent coat. Its too much to carry!!!

How expensive are the activities there? Should i do them else where?

Also, do you need to bring sun cream and mosquito spray in greece? should you bring this on the trip or buy it when you get there?

As far as prices go the two main extreme sport companies in Interlaken are Outdoor Interlaken (www.outdoor-interlaken) and Alpin Raft (www.alpinraft.ch)

If your heading to Slovenia I've heard that you can find similar extreme sports in Bovec at a more reasonable price. It's also an alpine setting. Sorry I don't have any links for prices there.

Last summer I was in Interlaken in July. No tights needed. At night it gets a little chilly, but you can warm up around the bonfire everynight at the hostel (Not Balmers, I stayed there and it was great. The other hostel is smaller but stoner city). As long as you have some pants (jeans) and sweatshirt, beanie, you will be fine.

I went white water rafting, and it was the cheapest thing to do. like 70 bucks. I also went on the long canyoning trip. DO IT!! If you are not planning on going sky diving, then start saving for the long canyonning with OutdoorInterlaken. IT was like 130 bucks, but it is 7 hours of cliff jumping, rapelling, hiking, swimming, and pure fun. Then only let people who are in shape on the top level canyonning so start exercising now. Also, mountain biking was cheap, like 5 euro an hour or something or 20 for the day. Great way to see the who city and surrounding cities. The bikes were excellent too.

Yep. Interlaken is mucho expensive. Skydiving is twice as expensive than anywhere else, but you are experience every activity in the most bad ass place ever. I went bungee jumping there. They have the highest bungee jump in europe and its onyl second to the one in Australia.

If you plan on doing anything "extreme" in interlaken, then def. plan on spending alittle extra cash. Interlaken is to exteme sports as Munich is to beergardens.

i was in interlaken in late october last year and i was wearing jeans, a tshirt and a light hoodie. then heading up the mountain it actually got warmer... unless you're actually going right to to peak of the mountains where there's snow, you'll be fine.

lilchappy, those pictures look great. Do you have any more info on the long canyon runs? Looks like they have 3 different ones available. Which did you do and have you heard anything on the others?

I did the 7 hour one through Outdoor Interlaken. It was amazing and definatly worth the money. If you are planning on going all out, like I did, you can actually work out a deal with the guy at Outdoor for mountain bikes. I booked rafting, bungee jumping, and canyoning the day I got there and used my negotiation skills to get free mountain bikes whenever I wanted. That was worth it!!!!

There are long canyon runs I believe on Monday Wed and Fri. Not everyday, but it is an all day adventure that they provide cheese, bread, beer, and other stuff after the adventure. The guides are cool but strict on following their rules. It is pretty dangerous up there and injuries happen if you don't follow directions.

As for company, go with outdoor interlaken. They have a different canyon that is about an hour away, but much more challenging than the other company. One jump you have to jump and slide against a wall and land on your ass or you will slam your legs into the rocks under the water! Awsome! This company also repels you down into a waterfall into a small cave.

Pictures are provided at a cost, that is very reasonable if you split it with someone else. 40 euro for all your pics, but i brought an underwater camera that got some cool ones(not the ones posted)

Thanks for the info lilchappy, much appreciated. Outdoor Interlaken is what i will go with. Im really excited about this part of my trip now. Can't wait to do a little canyoning and biking. We will see what else i can get myself into. Time to hit the gym a little more...

I wouldn't worry about a large coat. I'd recommend thermals and then layering clothing on top of that.

I agree that the extreme sports can add some serious swiss francs to your trip! I didn't do any myself but my hostel buddies at Balmers recommended the Canyonning. Be careful if mountain biking - one of our travelpunks broke his arm doing that in Interlaken!

Just one other thing - take time out to go for a walk by the lakes either side of the city. The colour of them is so beautiful.
