Barcelona is fabulous. First of all, though, you should know that Barcelona is the capital of Catalunya, whose official language is Catalan, not Spanish. You might want to learn a few Catalan phrases before you go as an ice breaker... many people *do* speak Spanish as well, but most will prefer to be addressed in Catalan first (and who can blame them?).

A lot of people like the Kabul hostel. I stayed in, uh, I think it's called the Euro Youth hostel right off of La Rambla. It's a convenient location if extremely touristy. Omisan will be along soon and I'm sure he'll recommend the Home Guest House... I wanted to go there but it apparently booked up fast. Bars and stuff, well, I don't have any recommendations as things probably have changed since I was there three years ago.

As far as things to do are concerned, do not miss out on Gaudi's Parc Guell and La Sagrada Familia. I really loved the La Pedrera as well.

Have fun, Barcelona is an addicting place!

barcelona was definatly in my top 5. kabul is a good hostel in a great location but the staff can be a little less than helpful at times. i was there for a week and found that to be too much time. it's a great city if you like to party.

I stayed in Kabul as well, but I thought it was a horrible hostel. The part I really couldn't handle was they didn't wash the sheets (which are attaced to the matress), pillows or blankets. When we walked in the first day, the workers were 'cleaning' the room and they just flipped the matresses. I'm really not picky about where I stay, but I thought Kabul was far over-rated. Maybe it has gotten better, I was there in 2004. I do remember they had nice lockers and it was in a good location.

If you want to see a lot of the city in one day, you could try Mike's Bike Tours (I think the name may have changed...). I joined one and learned so much about the city, and hit up a bunch of the sights. The guides are also very informative about other places to see, eat, drink and go clubbing.

Yeah, Fat bike tour was awsome, but the pub crawl was weak! If you want down the main street people will approach you and sell you beers for a euro and give you flyers that will get u into clubs for like 3 euro. Not crazy places but lots of people.

Oh yeah, got hammered there and was approached by a prostitute. I was so drunk I got out my wallet, gave her the 8 euro inside and said, get yourself a hot meal and point me to the metro(it was closed)

DUDE, TWO WORDS FOR YOU:

ESPETIT CHUPITOS... aka the fire shot bar.

I have no idea what this means in Spanish, but it's along the waterfront just off of Ramblas and when I was there in the summer of '05 it was 2 euros per shot... it was siiickkkkkk

How to get there: walk S. on Ramblas until you hit the end, then turn left. It should be one of the first few bars... it's quite smalled and usually packed like a bitch.

Yeah, Barcelona is a contender with Madrid for my favorite places in Europe... of course these cute Swiss chicks that I hung out with from the hostel was a factor in this also.

But I stayed here: http://www.hostelz.com/hostel/126-Alberg-Juvenil-Palau

It's a great hostel, in Gothic Quarter, quite cheap, close to everything (2nd closest hostel to the beach). Free internet, clean rooms, nice cozy atmosphere. The socializing room is so small that you can't help but make friends.

It's a little sketch outside, though. At night I couldn't walk 15 meters without someone offering me crack.

Honestly, a crew of us from this hostel went over to Kabul to see what was up there, and I am glad I stayed here... Kabul i thought was liek a "TGIF" of hostels.

Thing to do: I only stayed 3 days, so I only did a bit:
-Gaudi park
-The Sangrata Familia
-The beach (where the chicks are topless)

Needless to say, that last activity was where I spent most of my time :D

Have fun Bro!
