Climate in Southern Spain in April & May

I am looking to go to Southern Spain and Portugal sometime between late April and the middle of may and was wondering what the weather is like in that region at the time. Are the beaches busy then? Also any cool cities too check out would be appreciated. Thanks for any help.

According to the BBC: (in Celcius)

Madrid: http://www.bbc.co.uk/weather/world/c...ml?tt=TT004240
Sevilla: http://www.bbc.co.uk/weather/world/c...ml?tt=TT004250
Barcelona: http://www.bbc.co.uk/weather/world/c...ml?tt=TT004270
Lisboa: http://www.bbc.co.uk/weather/world/c...ml?tt=TT004170

To check the accuracy of these I compared to the temperatures provided for my home town, and I noticed that the max tempeatures are a bit lower than reality... but that could have to do with humidity and such.

Thanks for the links. I have looked up the average temperature on various weather sites, but was looking more for info from people who might have been in the region before. I can only go during that time of the year and would like to hit the beaches if they are busy that time (otherwise I might alter my trip somewhat).

just out of curiousity...why do you only want to hit the beaches if they're busy? Most people tend to prefer not so crazy crowded beaches

April/May definitely isn't high season...but it's certainly close enough. I'm sure you wont be alone on the beaches....how many people which will be there though I dont know (I only went july/august). Sorry, but that's all I can offer you

I don't really want to be there when the beaches are packed. I probably should have stated in my previous posts that I had read that some of the towns on the coast are almost vacant during the off season, so I want to make sure that I don't arrive in one. It sounds like that won't be a problem though.

It'll be over 30c anyway and it'll be busy most the year. The south of Portugal is full of Irish and English anything over 25c is scorching to us, so worth the trip, there are people that will only go during off peak to avoid the 40+ heat those places have during the summer. Portugal seems to have more locals than other Spainish places I've been to.

We were there in April a couple of years ago - in Rota, which is on the Atlantic side of Gibraltar. We had two days of sunny warm weather (one of which we spent in Cadiz, which is really a fun place to poke about if you have time for off-the-beaten-path stops), probably in the mid 20s and, to us northern types, warm enough to splash about, though the water was still too cold to really swim for long. The rest of the days were either rainy or really, really windy. There were several people wind-boarding (kite-boarding? whatever you call it), and they were loving life, but we had to take shelter from the blowing sand.

By contrast, we visited the same area several years earlier, in June and it was in the 40s, and beaches were packed, so probably in April, it'll be a bit on the cool and perhaps rainy side, and May will be just about the perfect mix of warm but not too crowded. If it were my decision, I'd probably visit Seville, Segovia, Granada, Cordoba, etc. during April, and head to the beaches in May.

I went to the south of Spain 2 yrs ago in June, lovely and hot on the coast but Granada was over 40 and quite unbearable.

April/May would be a good time to go, anything that isnt July/August is off peak and beaches would be comfortably busy not overcrowded.
