Finally planning my first trip
Well, I've decided my first solo backpacking trip is going to be 1-2 weeks in Scotland. I'm currently trying to find a way to get around. WWM's good luck with the hop on-hop off bus in South Africa has me looking at MacBacpackers & Haggis.
Has anyone ever used them? Comments...suggestions?

Hey! I'm so happy for ya!
Well I've used Macbackpackers before for Scotland (though way back in 2001!) . I had a fab time. The buses aren't too big , so you get a more personal experience. And all the drivers (the ones that I had anyways) are 100% pure scottish and very proud of their country. It's definately a great way to travel around Scotland. You have to jump off at Isle of Skye (if they still go there). To this day it's one of my top three travel experiences. And do the macbackpacker day trip of the island.
Oh I'm so happy for you!

Awesome woman....I´m so excited for you!! You just took a very important step....Yay!! I´m just curious....how did you finally decide on Scotland?
I´ve heard good things about those bus companies (from travellers in Mexico.) It looks like the idea is catching on in Central America as well....

Mike convinced you to go to his favorite place in Europe ? Not surprised. My sister also went with a friend in Scotland and loved it. Anyway, I can't give you any sort of help for Scotland, but I absolutely wanted to say : congrats on making the big step ! Another oldie on the road...

I'm really excited for you! Nothin is as great as your first trip (except for every trip there after)!
I used Haggis when I was in Scotland to go up to Loc Ness (yes I'm that kind of nerd and no i didn't see nessy ) and they are really good, great guide, lots of fun - that's my 2 cents :D

I've always wanted to see Scotland. I decided for my first trip, I'd go "safe" with a country that speaks the "same" language (sort of). :D
I'm going in May, not sure of the exact dates yet.
I'm currently reading up on some guidebooks to get an idea of what I want to see & how long to give each area for side trips.
Dio, the Isle of Skye is DEFINITELY on the A list of places to see. If I skipped Skye, Mike would probably never talk to me again .

A friend of mine did an independent study on the Isle of Skye, and I was drooling over her pictures. I don't think you can get more Scottish than that area. She said the island seemed almost like one big community. Hope you have an excellent time!!!!
