Default Who has been to the Greek Islands?

I am researching my upcoming trip and would love to go to the Greek Islands. Of course I have heard about the Pink Palace and Corfu. Is that what you guys recommend? I am looking for going out/lay on the beach time but also to soak up some culture and make get some exercise

Also, what do you think about this idea: http://info.easycruise.com/gb/splash/greece.html

Sorry I have been asking so many questions lately. I promise to give any advice when I have it, but most of you are more seasoned travellers than me

Thank you!!

I meant to say get some exercise. I don't know how to edit my posts

And I mean hiking or swimming or something. After I read it I didn't want people to think I meant that in a dirty way, hehe.

I'm sorry, but the time I went to Greece there was a strike at the port, so we couldn't go on ANY of the islands!! We had a REALLY thurough expedition of the Peloponesse instead...

But a lot of TPunks have had the privilege... it's only a matter of time until one of them logs on.

Good luck and enjoy the islands!!!

Smile Greek Isles

I heard that The Pink Palace has beautiful views.

I'd check out Paros and also Crete. Several people from here went to Crete and said they enjoyed it.

The easycruise weekend trip looks the best out of the three.

I realize that most people get around by ferry (or so it would seem at least), but many I have found seem very costly. What are the typical few weeks in Greece logistics?

Ferry, fly, sorry, I am just lost as to where to go and how to get there without breaking the bank. Just looking to hang out on the beach for 2 weeks.

Thank you

OK, so we are going to float around the greek isles for 2 weeks in june. We are flying in from Amsterdam to Athens. From there we fly Aegean airlines to Santorini. We are staying 6 days there, taking a ferry to Ios and staying at Francescos Hostel (supposedly 6th best in the world by Lonely Planet). The ferries are between 8 and 12 euros depending on the company. After Ios, we head to Naxos by ferry, same costs, and both rides are less than 2 hours (watch the ferry distance when planning your island hopping). When we leave Naxos, we are flying on Olympic airlines back into Athens for 2 days. The Olympic ticket was a little over a hundred, and the Aegean ticket to Santorini we got was about the same price, but I bought those like 7 months ago and got a great deal.
The best advice I can give is to plan islands relatively close to each other unless you want long ferry rides, and to make sure that there are actually ferry routes that connect your island list. Not all islands connect to each other. LOOK at that aspect closely. Happy Travels

So, Check these 2 sites out. One is pretty good for ferry schedules. Keep in mind, most schedules don't finalize till a month prior. The other is a knowledge base of all the islands and everything you would want to know

From my own experience to the Islands here is where I went and what I though of them.

Santorini - Very touristy but also worth it. Most images people have of the Greek Islands are of Santorini. I rented a car for the day for 25 Euros. Its a great way to get to the black and red sand beaches.

Mykonos - I stayed in the Town which was nice, but the main highlight was a daytrip to Delos. The whole island is covered in ruins. Kind of like the Pompeii of Greece.

Naxos - Very cute little village. I was there in April which was before the tourist season, so it was very quiet. A great place to relax and get away from everything.

Crete - I was only in Hania for 1 night but I loved it. I've heard from a lot of people that hiking in Samaria Gorge is great.

Corfu - I stayed at the Pink Palace for 2 nights and I hated it. I will admit I was there over the Greek Orthodox Easter so EVERYTHING was closed. All of the activites they promised are "seasonal" so make sure you go during the summer. It is a great party place and the A class rooms are some of the best I had stayed in through out Europe.

I hope that helps you!

I've only been to Crete, and enjoyed it quite a bit. Saw the ruins of Knossos, then went to Hania (Chania, Xania -- so many ways to transliterate other languages!). Nice Venetian style port city. One of our day trips from there was the hike in Samarra Gorge, as Travel_girl said. It was nice. Not the world's best, awesome-est ever hike in the world, but a good hike.

If you are at all into history, and you can fit it into your schedule, go north from Athens a few hours by bus to the monasteries of Meteora. Check out my Greek travelog on my website below, for info...

Default easycruise

I'm booked on The July 19th departure on easycruise (Greece/Turkey Itin). I haven't been to Greece at all yet, so I'm pretty excited.

Last year I used easycruise for a week in the Caribbean, and it was a fantastic value.

I saw Easycruise online, and was curious if people enjoyed it. Have a blast in Greece and let us know how the easycruise is!

I am in Santorini writing this, and it is visually intense. It is not a party scene unless there are cruise ships staying the night. Then things get intense, other than that Santorini is great for relaxing...

Santorini is really beautiful and good for relaxing. Crete is the biggest Greek island with a lot of bars and clubs in Hersonissos.

Mykonos and Ios are the party islands and Rhodes, Corfu and Kos are more family islands.

If you would ask me, I would visit Crete, Santorini and Mykonos in this order
