Welcome! Glad everything's going well. Here's an idea:

Quote:
Taxi

* * * Journey time to central London 60-70 minutes.

* * * Cost to central London is around £65.

Train

* * * A number of train services run direct from Gatwick Airport Station into London.

* * * Direct services to London Victoria station.
* * * Gatwick Express trains run every 15 minutes from 05:20 to 00:50 and hourly overnight. Journey time 30 minutes. Information line: 0870 530 1530.
* * * Fare: £10.20 one way, return/round trip is £19.50. Same day return (valid from 9.30 am) is £11.70.

* * * Connex South Central's service to Victoria at 35 minutes takes a little longer but is cheaper. There are four trains each hour, Monday to Friday, with hourly service overnight.
* * * Fare: £8.20 one way, £16.40 return/round trip. An off peak day return is £8.30.

* * * Through trains to London King's Cross and beyond.
* * * Thameslink trains run through London Bridge, Blackfriars, City Thameslink, Farringdon and King's Cross Thameslink stations to St Albans, Luton and Bedford.

hmmm, that train looks pretty good. 11.70 return aint tooooo bad i guess. any other good ideas? is the airport relatively close to anything cool? or is it a long ways out from everything.

also, onething i mannaged to forget is plug adapters. does the UK and the rest of the EU have diferent plugs? i will be traveling spain and france for a bit before settleing in the UK (got a visa) so it would be sweet if i could get the same plug for all of them. shouldent have to much trouble finding them in the airport right? something to do durring that layover:greenguy:

Europe and the UK have different plugs but you should be able to get a plug adapter kit that has a selection of plugs at the overpriced airport shops, with no problems. Just be sure you don't fry your stuff with the 220 power over here (don't know what it is in the UK).

alrighty folks its now 8:35 in the afternoon and i gotta get up at 6 tomorrow to catch my flight. i am suddenly hit by this immense felling that i am leaveing home for the last time. kinda wierd how i was all cool with things before but now its like "damn, this aint gonna be home no more". ive left home many times before, often for several months, but this one just feels waaaaay different. but whatever right, everyones gotta do it sometime, maybe its just nice to sit and have some reflection. life as i have known it has revolved around this house (lived in this baby since i was 6) and now im moveing.

well the bags all packed now and im ready to go pretty well. dont quite know what will happen when i get there but im sure it will include loads of fun.

im sure i will log on again at some point tonight, im sure i wont sleep at all, but just in case, i will say goodbye to all of you now, and i will be sure to keep you all updated with where i will be for the sake of catching someone for a beer or two.

thanks for all the advice guys

This is such an ackward feeling, due to our fear of the unknown. However it'll go just as you'll land your feet on foreign ground.

Have a great time ! And we'll love to hear your stories and tips !

I know the feeling. When we left for Europe, we weren't sure if we were leaving for 3 months or 3 years (it was the latter), but we knew no matter what, we weren't ending up back there.... We'd been staying with my parents for the few days before we left and man... that was hard!! I kept feeling like I was never going to see it again. The morning we left, I was sooooo sick. I tried to get down a wheat thin and went out side to (literally) gag it out. We were saying goodbye to Wisconsin though... the place I grew up (lived in that home since I was 6 too ). It gets easier as time goes on.

Your trip will be amazing! Once you land, you'll start to feel better.
