So i leave in 5 weeks for a 12 day trip backing through Netherlands, France, Belgium. I have most days filled, but am looking for a fun daytrip out of Brugge. Within an hour would be nice. I have thought of going to Oostende, but am open to other ideas.

I was just going to suggest Oostende. We did that as a day trip from Brugge - nice quick train ride and the town is really quaint. I love see the coast off any town, so it was pretty neat. There didn't seem to be a whole lot to do, so we had lunch, walked around a bit then went back. I have no other suggestions!

Thanks so much, that was kinda my plan as well. Jump a train early, hang out have lunch, and then get back to Brugge. As long as there is good beer, I'm good. I am also a coast person. I collect sand from anywhere I go. Did you wish you had more time in Brugge? I will be there for 3 days.

Ya know, it's a great city, they have great shopping and wonderful people there, but it's not like a hip happening place. Which is good in it's own right, but there's a lot to see in Europe. A few days is definitely sufficient to see it, hang out, eat great food, drink great beer, meet great people, and then move on.

Brugges is a fairly small town, but there is some great sceneary, and its a nice downer between 24 hours days in Amersterdam. I just posted a few highlights for you on my blog site http://grahampotter.blogspot.com. Brugge Zot is one of the best if not the best beer I had last summer. The famous hostel there (I forget the name, maybe bauhaus) has a great bar and a lot beer selection. Its a great place to chill out and rent a bike to ride out for a day or two.

Thanks for the advice so far, I will be in A-dam for 4 days, and Paris for 4 days as well. I am always open to an insider opinion on how to spend my time, so anybody reading this let me know.

I heart Brugge, its a nice town by the coast. As suggested maybe go to Ostend. If it were me, I would just chill by the coast drinking beer and eating mussels and waffles.
