My birthday is on May 29th this year and I'll be travelling through Spain. While I originally had planned to be in Barcelona by this date, I realize that the rest of my plans through the Andalucia region of Spain are quite rushed.

Here's my itinerary for comments:

May 18- Madrid Spain (2 nights)
May 20-22 - Cordoba(2)
May 23-25 Arcos De la Frontera/Ronda (2)
May 26-27th Granada(2)
May 27-28 Valencia(2)
May 29-31 Barcelona(2 not including Girona)

Wondering if anyone might be able to give me some ideas on what cities would be fun to celebrate a bday? If I extend my stay in the other places, I'll probably be near Granada, Valencia or Barcelona.

If you can give me some more information on the Canary islands or little towns along the way, it would be muchly appreciated. Bus/Train ETA travel times would be wonderful too!

Many thanks.

You could throw Seville into the mix, it's good, too. If I had to pick a birthday destination, I'd choose Granada, for no reason other than it sounds coolest to me. I've been to Spain, but besides Madrid, not to any of the places on your list, so I can't make a rational comparison.

For train info, you can check out the german national train site, www.diebahn.de, I think (google it, it'll come up), click for English, and you can get train info anywhere in Europe. It doesn't have pricing or ticketing outside of Germany, but it's a good schedule planner. If you can find yourself a copy of the Thomas Cook European Time Table, that's a good resource, for schedule info, too.

Granada is cool, its set in a hilly region and with that Moorish palace, the Alhambra, looming over town, very atmospheric. Friendly people, too. My favorite city otherwise in Spain is Segovia, which you can do as a day trip out of Madrid.
