I'm planning to head to Poland and Slovakia with some friends in Late May 2006. We were thinking of heading up to the Tatras Mountains. Does anyone know if they are worth a visit? If so where is the best place to go (town/area). We'd like to do some adventure travel to a fun mountain town with adrenaline sports (hiking, rock climbing, kayaking/white water rafting, repelling into caves etc.) A bar or 2 would be cool as well. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

I was there early May, and there still was snow in the mountains ! The Ski season is from December to April or May, depending on the winter. It'll still be rather cold when you go, make sure to bring warm clothes for the mountains.
I only spent one evening to the next morning there, in Tatranska Lomnica, so I can't help you much. I've found this link to give you more infos : High Tatras - Slovakia. I can tell you it was gorgeous, and yes, it is worth staying a few days ! |
Zakopane is cool, i dunno what sports and stuff are on offer but i can imagine there would be quite alot of choice as it seemed to be the hub of the area.
I went up the cable car and the view at the top of Kasprowy Wierch was amazing. Was lucky and was able to watch the sun set over the mountains Zakopane also has alot of bars and restraunts and they seemed to be fairly jumping come night time. |
