hello!

here's the lowdown - i am spending some time in london and then meeting my family in athens, where we are going on a cruise that ends in venice. from venice i am planning to travel south starting may 17th. here is my itinerary:

may 17 - venice to ljubljana
ljubljana - 4 days, with a daytrip to Bled
ljubljana to graz
graz to vienna (just stay a day or so)
vienna - 4 days
vienna to cesky krumlov or ceske budejovice
cesky krumlov/ceske buejovice to prague
6 days in prague, with a daytrip to kutna hora
prague to berlin
6 days in berlin
fly from berlin to london

i figure i'll travel for roughly a month after splitting from the family.

does anyone have any thoughts on this plan? is it too much for the amount of time? any thoughts on the destinations?

specifically, i am undecided about whether i should check out cesky krumlov, or if my time would be better spent somewhere else. i do not know that this route is best for transportation connections.

in case anyone might offer suggestions, i am big into modern art/architecture - art noveau from art noveau to graffiti. has anyone visited metelkova in ljubljana? can anyone recommend any theatre in berlin?

i have done very little travelling, none of it alone, and i would very much appreciate some advice from anyone willing to bestow it!

THANKS A BUNDLE!

Welcome to the boards!

Generally, I prefer spending at least 3 days in a city-- preferably more. It's enough time to unpack, wander around and get a good solid feel for a place.

Of the cities on your list I've only been to Vienna, but I can't imagine that you'll have anything less than a smashing time! The best piece of advice I can give you at the moment without knowing what your other concerns are is this: Try not to limit yourself to a strict itinerary. It's very possible that a city and/or its inhabitants will steal your heart and you'll want to stay longer. You can make hostel reservations a day or two in advance, which will give you both peace of mind and flexibility in your itinerary.

Don't worry-- you'll have an absolutely fabulous time!
