I just noticed that a few new Eastern European countries have been added to the Eurail pass. I was thinking about getting 4 countries, Hungary, Slovainia/croatia, Serbia/Bulgaria and Greece.
But i've bee told that train travel in these countries is pretty cheap, so i started wondering wheather the pass would be good idea or not.
I've used a rail pass in Western Europe and found it a good deal.

Western Europe railpass = good, E. Europe = waste of money. Trains are cheap and plentiful. :)

Just to give you a bit of an idea of train prices in the area, in July I paid:

Budapest (Hungary) - Bucharest (Romania): £37

Bucharest (Romania) - Varna (Bulgaria): £7

Varna (Bulgaria) - Sofia (Bulgaria): £6

Sofia (Bulgaria) - Belgrade (Serbia): £12

Sarejevo (Bosnia) - Budapest (Hungary): £40

They were all night trains and with seat reservations only (where required), beds were obviously more.

The Eastern Euro. Railpasses are only a good deal if you don't want to deal with the challenge of buying tickets every time you travel. Cost wise, they're more expensive than point to point, but if convenience is more important than cost, then they do save some hassle.

I'd like to add however that they allow only a few stops. Someone who intend to travel for more than a couple of days, will have to buy tickets anyway.

About the Budapest-Bucharest ticket : when bought in Budapest, it allows you to stopover for days in any stations on the way like Cluj, Sighisoara and Brasov, that are all super interesting. Plus it is a return ticket. It makes a good deal !

I agree, i doubt you need a rail pass for eastern europe. Trains are so cheap and its never that hard to go and buy a ticket. I never had any hassle anyway like and dont rmember having to que.
