What's up all? I have been trying to find hostels in Bratislava, Slovakia and can't find sh*t. Where did you all stay when you were there. A side note, more or less looking for a place with a party atmosphere. Thanks for the info.

Well, when I was there I had my own apartment. :wub: But I remember that there is a hostel in the old part of the city and I seem to remember that it's vaguely "Dr. Seuss-ish." I don't know what that means, but criminy, there are tons of hotels there, I'm sure you'll find something!!

there is only 1 hostel that i know of its called the backpackers hostel and it has an excellent location and is very cheap the people that run the hostel are very friendly and the alcohol was very cheap give me a day or so and i will find the email add for you to book as we were lucky we turned up at 7am and managed to book in however people that were turning up in the afternoon got turned away

Cool, thanks for the help. I found the downtown backpackers hostel but I was having difficuly booking it. It seemed it wasn't open in the June-July timeframe, which I thought was odd. I may end up staying at a hotel instead. I am traveling solo, so I was looking to meet up with other travelers. Thanks for your help. You guys kick ass.

I didn't stay here when I was there. I stayed at Gabriel's hostel and I think it's the one SV is maybe thinking of. It is in an apartment block where all the residents are trying to get rid of it (may not exist anymore) and it's near all the embassies...guys with guns hanging around! It's pretty dodgy - really cramped and run by a tall skinnny goofy guy.

I was there in May 2002, and had also troubles finding a place to stay. Budget lodging isn't available before the high season begins. And the tourist info opens for summer as well.

I was lucky. Walking down the streets hoping to find a hotel downtown, I met a woman who had a private room to offer. It's very close the central station. The place wasn't very nice, but the lady was, so I stayed there three days. She needs money to provide for her handicaped child, whom she raises on her own.

We stayed at the Spirit Hotel last summer - it's the Dr. Suess one; it's pretty wild looking, especially in a neighbourhood of respectable old houses. I wouldn't say it has a great party atmosphere in the drinking and carrying on sense, it's some kind of a health spa too, I think - naturopathic, drink the right kind of tea for your illness kind of thing. But you don't have to do that, it's just something they have. The rooms are awesome if you like off-the-wall, we stayed in a two-storey apartment on the top floors, with balconies, multi-coloured everything and a giant mobile floating around over the balcony, none of the windows are square. Even the glass balcony doors are asymmetrical. Also had awesome views of the city. They have smaller rooms too. Not the cleanest I've ever seen, but good enough, and relatively cheap. They have paints and an easel in the lobby for the guests' use, and hang the completed paintings around the hotel.

Good location close to the station, but hard to find from there. Actually, it's just hard to find the right door out of the station. Fortunately, the awesome lady at the train station info booth shut the place down to walk us halfway there. Once you get going in the right direction, it's close to the station and public transit, and you really CAN'T miss it. Not much around nearby, especially food. The buffet is completely not worth it, unless you like limp bologne and processed ham, unidentifiable salad and unbuttered buns for breakfast. (Butter isn't good for you. Apparently processed ham is okay.) Staff are very nice, but I'd eat elsewhere, every meal! Fortunately, it's easy to get to the station where you can also catch buses and trams everywhere.

There were lots of other guests there, from everywhere, so you'd probably meet people to spend time with. Possible it's a bit more exciting at night than when I was in the lobby, I was pretty sick while we were there (recovering from Salzburg, not Bratislava's fault!) and spent most of my time watching the Olympics and groaning for Motrin. I've officially seen enough wrestling to last my whole life and then some.

Thanks for all the info guys. When you were in Bratislave, how was it? Is it worth going to? What kind of nightlife did it have, and was it cheap or expensive? That's all the questions I have for now. I'll keep looking for a hotel. Thanks again.

Bratislava is definitely worth it. It's pretty cheap, parts of it are pretty (and other parts-- namely Petrzalka, the old communist apt. buildings-- are fairly grim.) The nightlife seems pretty good from what I could tell-- I was taken around to several different pubs. Lots of good looking people!!!

Thanks for the info SV. It seems a lot of places that have good looking people, there is also great nightlife. I think it has to do with everyone wanting to be seen. Sounds great, I'm sure I'll have a good time. Still working on a place to stay.
