The guy who owns The Loft Hostel in Budapest is a gem. Haven't stayed there, but the hostel has been the number one hostel on hostelworld.com for a couple months. He was working at a diff. hostel when i was there and he was alot of fun.
I stayed at Haus Christine in Salzburg. Last year it was 18 euro a night. More of a bed and breakfast then a hostel. Well worth the money. It is a 4 minute train ride out of Salzburg, but very ez to get too.

I stayed in the elf hostel in Prague and Central backpack king in budapest. Both highly recommended especially elf. It has a nice small common room with a bunch of counches bunched together that really encourages everyone to sit around and talk/drink (beer for sale at reception 3m away). Went looking for the name of the one I stayed in in Salzburg but cant find it anymore on hostelworld or bookers. Was pretty poor anyway though
