I have a question about hostels. I have seen that some hostels do not allow sleeping bags. Is this the norm, or do most hostels allow you to use a sleeping bag?

From what I know it depends on the country. In dirtier countries there can be a huge bed bug problem if people use their own sleeping bags. In south america I was very seldom allowed to use mine.

Still depends. Its best to email the hostel in question the actual question.
I would pack a sleep sheet regardless, and after that... (i already keep one in the pack)

The sleep sheets (sometimes required at hostels, sometimes provided...sometimes for an extra fee!) can be purchased from travel stores or websites or you can make your own. Some people prefer to spend the extra $$$ on silk, because it's lighter, packs more compactly and dries faster, but cotton is fine too. If you want to make your own, just buy a double sheet, fold it over and sew up the other side, with a little slit down each side to make it easier to get in and out.

try sleeping in a sheet sewn on one side... I dont think you'll find it very fun.
A regular queen or king sized sheet will do ya fine if you arent worried about bugs crawlin up on ya. Else sew the sides and slip into it like a gunny sack.
