Default Tel-Aviv in t-minus 7 days! :)

Hey there, I'm travelling to Israel in a week, and I have a couple of questions for lovely t-punks!

First thing, I'm travelling on two separate itineraries - one from GEG to BOS, and another from BOS to TLV. My mom is all concerned about the Boston Logan airport because I'm going to need to get between terminals C and E - there's a shuttle bus that goes between and she is convinced that I'll have to go through security again when I arrive. I'm pretty positive that I won't because the shuttle bus departs from the arrivals level, but anyone with experience that can tell me the deal?

Next thing, how much money is generally recommended to have in cash when you arrive in a country where they give you a tourist visa on the spot? Israel doesn't require US citizens to get a visa beforehand but when you go through customs they recommend that you have some money so you don't look like evil backpacker scum.

A couple short ones: thoughts on Iberia Airlines? Madrid Airport? I can't think of anything else to ask but I'm sure I have some more questions rattling around somewhere.. anyway, thanks a million! Can't wait to get some delicious Hanukkah foods down my gullet.

I guess it may depend by the country, but if you bring a printout of a bank balance in your name that's usually what they want...plus $50 or something.

What did you decide on the passport situation?

Thanks, that sounds like a plan - I also have two credit cards. My partner told me to bring $300 in cash but I thought that was a bit too much to have on me at one time. :S

As for the passport, I'm not sure what I've decided at this point! The one I have now expires in February 2011, and the likelihood of my travelling to Syria, Lebanon, etc. is fairly low between now and then, unfortunately. I did read the excellent article that I think you posted, about getting the second passport, and it would seem that it would be better to get a new passport, travel around to anywhere but Israel on it (since the author says some countries give blank passports a hairy eyeball), and apply for a second passport that is specifically for travelling to Israel... most of this depends on if I'm not totally broke by the time 2011 rolls around! ;p
