Rockin J's - Puerto Viejo, Costa Rica
 

If I had enough time I could write a novel about how much this hostel blows donkey balls. It's a huge hostel at the end of the main road, this place is where you go if you're a frat boy or party girl looking to stay at the hostel and drink yourself stupid and only meet others who are looking to do the same.

Ok, so I did meet other people who weren't into that..but we didn't stay at the hostel that much because of that. The entire place is done in mosaic..looks cool, and there are a lot of random paintings and decorations that are fun to look at..but that is where the coolness of Rockin J's ends.

The rooms and bathrooms are gross - dirty and youre lucky if toilet paper is in there. I slept in one of the tents, which are cheaper and located on the upper deck.

There is a restaurant and bar here - which are both hellaciously expensive, even for Costa Rica which is very expensive in itself. Buying a bottle of water at the hostel is 1500 colones which is about 3 bucks. I can buy the same size bottle at the grocery store there for 600 colones (a little over a dollar). The food quality is bad at their restaurant when you see the prices. J was charging $1 for 15 MINUTES on his laptop. What a joke.

Oh yes, this brings me to the worst aspect of Rockin J's...the staff. I would love to punch every one of them in the face. J, or Jay, or douchebag as I like to call him, is a sleeze ball. He will try to get the girls drunk or high on whatever he can find so he can try to bang them. He is a rude bastard who thinks he's god's gift to women. HAH.

The fat white guy who sits behind the tour counter is even worse. I was standing patiently at his desk for at least 5 minutes while he was bullshitting on the phone with a friend. Then he put the phone down, looked at me and said "Im sorry did you need something?" in a tone of voice that I couldn't believe..what an ass.

The local women who work at the main counter do the same thing. I am not the only person who thought the staff was insanely rude. I met many people who really disliked Rockin J's.

Every full moon they have a big party where "douchebag" hands out psilocybe mushrooms. What a great idea, get your guests to trip balls in a crazy unfamiliar environment, good thinking!

The bikes they rent out are crap, too. I went to the place next door to rent inside..much better quality and much nicer people.

If you're going to Puerto Viejo (which i dont recommend, either..this town is a touristy nightmare and not very safe at all) please stay elsewhere..giving J your money is like selling your soul to the devil..lol
