all US citizens/residents........how do you find and/or buy plane tickets to cuba? no plane fare website (expedia, travelocity, etc) will let me even browse tickets to cuba...even though i've listed a mexican or canadian airport as the departure place.
so how did all you americans find plane tics to cuba? and when you found it...how the heck did you pay for it?

No American company will sell tickets to Cuba because American's aren't *legally* allowed to go there.
I've heard of people going anyway but it can be a very, very big risk-- not security-wise, of course, but if Uncle finds out you've ducked over to Cuba for a few Pina Coladas, they can take away your passport.
That said, I'd love to go to Cuba, so if you make it, be sure to let us know how you did it!!

I don't know how cheap you'll be able to find fares...
You can start by going to STATravel.com and selected "Canada" as your location. Then you can search from Canadian airports to Havana. Don't know many other options for you. You have to be VERY careful traveling to Cuba as an American, however. As SV said, if Uncle Sam finds out you went there, there can be serious repercussions.
I don't agree at all with the embargo...we do billions of dollar in business with communist China and Vietnam, but a little island 90 miles from our shores has people living in complete poverty when it can be changed drastically by lifting the embargo.

Another case for dual citizenship, methinks... God knows I'd love to sip a few mojitos in a bar Hemingway was known to frequent.
(here's the radically political animal in me starting a flamewar:
it isn't the current or any past administration's "fault" regarding the Cuban embargo. Rather, its the huge Cuban-descent population in South Florida that has the capability to swing a presidential election if they so choose. If any sitting president were to advocate change to the current policy with Cuba so long as Castro is alive and kicking, they have no chance of them or any of their respective party being reelected.... every time in the past 15 years its come up for debate, the folks in FLA have put up a huge stink...
And Omi, believe you me, those same groups make a stink about the same companies you linked to in those articles doing that type of biz. Shame, but so long as Castro is around, ain't gonna happen, dig? )

Lots of countries in the Caribbean fly to Cuba. You can get there from Jamaica. So, just buy a round trip ticket to whatever country you can find the cheapest air fare to that has service to Cuba. Then fly there, buy your tickets to Havana once you get to the airport (pay cash, if you're especially worried about Big Bro), and voila! You're on your way to smoking a Havana with Fidel!
Just watch out when he blows "mustard gas from his cigar" at the CIA men and "immobilizes the lot of them." Just tell yourself, "I feel better, now. I feel better than James Brown..."

I still love the CIA's old scheme to plant exploding cigars in Castro's humidor to kill him. It's almost as good as the belly dancer assassin to kill Saddam Hussein. Those whacky spooks!
