Alright, I grew a pair and booked. I'm flying from San Jose (California) to San José (Costa Rica) on May 11 for about a week. I don't plan on spending much time in San José - well, maybe at the end to party, but I hope to do a lot of 'splorin.
Things on my list:
• Monteverde Cloudforest (zipline canopy tour thingy)
• La Fortuna/Volcano Arenal (getting there by horseback, maybe?)
• Limón (wasting away on the beach)
I know there's the whole Tortuguero thing, but I've heard it's pointless to go if it's rainy or if it's not turtle egg laying season... But any other tips/advice/suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Well, I'm off in a few hours! Totally excited, not nervous, but a bit concerned about the fact that I decided to go more the "wing it" route have nothing but my first two nights there booked and planned.. but fuck it, that's why they call it adventure travel, right?
I'll probably be incommunicado, but if anyone wants to reach me, try emailing me at:
omidabroad(at)gmail.com
Hasta la whenever...

Alright, I´m here in San Jose CR, and I highly recommend the Hostel Pangea to anyone headed this way. Pool, bar, lockers, you name it. Anyway, I haven´t done much, but three other backpackers were on my flight and are staying here, so we´ve been drinking some beers and are now about to retire for the night. Hopefully there will be some adventures to report on tomorrow, but at the veyr least, I´ve been spreading the TP gospel so hopefully we´ll have some cool new peeps here.
´til tomorrow...

Ok, I didn´t think I´d be this much of a geeeeek, but here I am on the internet again. (I can´t help it! It´s free!) That and everyone´s still asleep and I had to go and sample the yummy free Costa Rican coffee in the kitchen.. so now I´m amped and trying to figure out what to do today.
SV, Adam - don´t be jealous, just come on down. everything´s so CHEAP. hahah.. Beer - cocktails are to be avoided here (can´t beat dirt-cheap Imperial beer, it´s actually pretty good) but I´m headed over to the red light district for some wild-ass sex this evening. Ermm.. ok, maybe that´s to be avoided too.
Anyway, I hope to have some photos after I amble around San Jose. At which point, I wnat to plug into the USB port of this thingamajigger and put up some pix.. which begs the question - does anyone know of a way I can resize photos in Windows without Phtoshop? This thing just seems to have the basics... I´m a graphics retard when it comes to Windows.

San Jose is officially boring.
I had my camera at the ready all morning and found very little of interest to snap pics of. Nada. I mean, there are little things of interest here and there, but otherwise I haven´t found this city to be very photogenic.
The most interesting part was walking over to where all the bus terminals are - as I want to be on the next bus outta here. That neighborhood has a lot of, um, character. Lots of crackwhores. Got the ¨come hither¨hiss from one with a body built for sin and a face made for radio. YIKES. Not into the toofless thing...
Anyway, what I´m getting at is that San Jose is like any other major city full of McD´s and KFC´s and tourist stands selling crappy t-shirts and the like. At least everything´s dirt CHEAP. I dunno, maybe my impression of it will change by tonight... oh, and the people are SUPER nice, even the cab drivers who harass you are polite about it. Heh.
The Spanish is finally starting to come out.. did a full transaction in espanol and even learned a few new words. Woohoo! Traveling rocks

Dunno, but the pool here did me wonders. All of a sudden, my outlook on San Jose is a lot more sunny.
I also realized I´ve been checking in WAY too much - damn free internet terminals...
