Toronto Part Deux

Ok folks the SARS thing looks like its clearing up, and I can tell ya one thing that would bring you to Toronto, a Rolling Stones concert with 15 other bands, and 500,000 of you closest friends, for $20 bucks!!! Thats like $12US.

Its at the end of July and its just been confirmed. So send big props to Toronto, we could use it!!!!

AC*DC and Justin Timberlake have been added, aswell as a rumor of U2 joining in....This thing is going to be huge....150,000 tickets reserved for out of country peps...and 150,000 for Canadians...I can't wait....!!!!!!!

Toronto.... hmmm.. I was here once before. But this time.. I was gonna go with a couple buddies of mine, including gspina. So we ventured off at 5a.m. on Thursday, May 13. Getting across the border was easy as cheese. A couple questions, show some ID... and away we were. Once again I must complain about this thing in Canada. They have these signs that say... "HEY! There is a McDonald's here!" But you get off the exit and there are no more signs about where this McDonald's is... so you drive this way, and that way, and over here, and finally you pick the right road. We got a modest 1.25 exchange rate. Alright for not being a bank.

Then off we were. Traveling the open highway of Canada at 63mph (for everyone else in the world 100kmh)., ok, so I was doing like 130km... I speed. So we get to what appears to be the Toronto area.. I get in the express lanes and am looking for our exit. No exit, end up in Ajax.... Turn around... still can't find exit, so I just get off the freeway, we will explore Toronto street level.

We were kind of hungry so we stop at this restaurant. We realize we forgot to exchange our money still, but check it out anyways. The lady offeres us $20.40 C for $20 US. She says this is the standard exchange rate you will get anywhere. P-shaw.,... we were out of there. Finally through the thick haze we see the downtown hiding behind the clouds. So away we went. I drop my buddies off at a bank and pull of and run in to a Shoppers Drug Mart to find a map... check it out find out where I am going, and away we go just before the meter maid gets there. Since I didn't realize I had to buy a ticket for parking... ooops. We get to our hotel. Ok... the interiro fashion is something out of the 60's. We were at the Days Inn Downtown.

I stopped off at the bank across the street to exchange my money.. I got 1.3699. YAY! We took the subway down to Union Station. (mad props to C-dude for having such an efficient subway system! ) We saw the Hockey Hall of Fame... (Yay Mike Gartner! my favorite hockey player yeah I know nobody knows who he is... but Toronto should). The stanley cup. C-dude called me to say he couldn't hang out with us. Then we headed to the CN tower. Nice view, but still a little cloudy to see anything really great. Then my buddy wanted to go to Eaton Centre, which is fine since I needed to get a postcard of it. We ate, walked around a bit, nothing too exciting. Back to the hotel.

About 9:30 we left to go out to the bar. I was scouring what info I could find and picked a place called Milwaukee's over on Adelaide I thinik. (Oh yeah just a note, I was able to get around Toronto because of this nifty little downtown map I found at a restaurant that folded nicely in my pocket. So I didn't look all touristy. Very awesome thing.. they should make them for every major city). This bar seemed kind of dead, but they had burgers.. so I got one and a $2 beer. After about 30-40 minutes this place was pretty happening. People everywhere... all sorts of fun hurrah stuff. They had some sort of competition thing that was getting people naked, I don't know what was going on, but I saw naked girls and that is all that mattered. We also met some girls that were traveling through Toronto from Switzerland. Unfortunately my inebreation interfered with any truly productive conversation. Such as how cool Switzerland is. Oh well...

Oh yeah.. I forgot.. on our way back downtown, my buddy was harassed by a bum in the subway wanting to sell him a transit token. He went so far as to say he was gonna kick my buddy's ass. We told my buddy he should have told us, we would have been on a mission for deportation. What rude bums... very unsatisfactory. But overall.. Toronto was a pretty cool city. A good nightlife, and a nice downtown. Most people are frienly but there are a lot of people that are in their own world and aren't into talking to anyone. I like the trolley's too. one thing I miss about Detroit.

Overall I give it 3 1/2 out of 5 stars. Nice city, good for family trips, nice nightlife, good for young people. Efficient mass transit.

There you go, Rob, aren't you just the traveling man, lately? Sounds like you had a good time in Toronto...too bad CD couldn't hang out with you. That's what you get for being spur of the moment...you brown bagger!

Anyway, I haven't been ignoring you guys, lately. I don't get internet at work anymore (where I did all my Tpunking). I'm so busy at home getting the house all fixed up, and my dialup is so s-l-o-w, that I don't really get much of a chance to post much lately.

I have come very close to actually participating in that get naked contest at Milwaukees, unfortunately all my friends were there and I didn't think it was going to be appropriate.... They've stopped that contest now, apparently it became illegal or something... oh well... that's life. cya!
