can any of you guys in canada tell me whats the deal with whistler...
Its one of those places that i have heard before from my past, but not sure if it was because of good things or bad things. Its got me thinking? Dare i go and find out for myself ? |
well whistler is an interesting place, its perfectly natural for you to be interested, a lot of Ozzies go there! I don't know how much you know about it, but it is a ski-town near vancouver. The real estate is extremely expensive and constantly rising, and they have good skiing. Its a popular place to go and find work... I personally havn't been there for a long while, and don't know that much about it...but if that appeals to you, I might also suggest Banff, which is also a very sweet town tucked away in the rockies, with lots of summer jobs in hotels and restaurants and what not.

Whistler whistler whistler...
Where do I even begin. I'm sure that you've heard about it before. Since in the winter there are actually more aussies there than locals (or even vancouver peeps). Year after year whistler is rated as the number ski resort in the n. america and the world, so it's safe to say that it's full of tourists. It is VERY VERY expensive in whistler. If you planned on settling down and getting a place to live I would advise against it since the rent prices would eat you alive. I don't ski or snowboard so the only time that I go up to whistler is during the summer months. I must admit, it really is gorgeous. Though my fav part is the actual ride up to whistler. It's about a two hour drive north of Vancouver up the notorious Sea to sky highway. Notorious for a killer highway. So if you are driving take each corner slow because there are numerous deaths on the road each year. But the views during the ride are simply amazing. So going up to Whistler for a daytrip might be an option. Greyhound goes up there. If you want some good nightlife whistler is lots of fun. That's why most vancouver people head up there. Go up on a weekend (in the summer anyways) and there are lots of weekenders from Vancouver. So it's a toss up. Pro's - awesome amazing drive up the sea to sky highway -good nightlife -hot aussie men (errr..sorry that's my own personal pro) -if you like skiing/boarding than these hills are constantly rated as some of the best in the world -good summer activities such as whitewater rafting, hiking, mountain biking etc... -very accesible from vancouver con's -sometimes overrun with aussies and the locals don;t like them so much (sorry :) ) -expensive expensive expensive -very tourisy at times have fun! B) (ask if you have any more q's) |

The only bad thing I've ever heard said about Whistler is the expense...never been there, but I'm learning to snowboard, so maybe in a couple years...if I'm tuition hasn't completly run me down..
