I was in Vancouver last summer for a day or so. I went to the aquarium, and for a strole in Stanley Park. a little trolly ride in the park as well, cause it's a good sized park. I also went on a Harbour cruise. I found the boat ride extremely boring!!!! but I got a few nice pics, and I saw some sea lions swimming. it's a wonderful city. Dio lives in Van. I'm sure she knows of something to see or do.

Canadian Bacon

Go to Granville Island... and visit the market... some of the freshest and best seafood you have ever tasted! I am a big fan of clam chowder, and they have some of the best.

Also - hit up a Japanese place called "Guu" on Robson (I think), it's downtown. It's run by actual Japanese people (all the places in T.dot are all Korean or Chinese owned), so its like a real Japanese restaurant where all the staff yells japanese greetings to you when you walk in, making you flinch a little. The food there is awesome.....

Aww you sholud have told me! Im out of town til tomorrow nite. Have you gone to stanley park (rent a bike and ride around the seawall. its gorg!) , grouse mtn, granville island, gastown, capilano suspension bridge...alll the usual tourist jaunts. when do you leave? thurs/fri?

Yeah sorry hun my whole trip has been very disorganised, i broke my shoulder right before i was supposed to leave so ended up changing all my flights etc and am now already in calgary! will probably be back at some point in the next few months once my sister arrives.

In case anyone reads this my tips for vancouver would be:
* Dont stay at samesun. The staff are rude and unhelpful and the quality of room you get can really vary.
* Go up Grouse mountain for the view (theres also grizzlys,timber wolves and ice skating)
*Capilano swing bridge was fun but I wouldnèt have enjoyed it by myself
*Pull in a few hostel friends go to the Granville island market and come up with dinner together - the quality of food available is really good and is a thousands times nicer than dirty takeout
* the ski n board outlets nearby in kitsilano are really well priced if your looking to get new gear but dont mind last seasons model
*Go to a gig if u can, i tagged along to one that wouldnt normally be something id pick and had a ball
*the vancouver lookout gives a really good view of the city and if you go during the day you can use the same pass again at night

Hey all, I'm a former backpacker who settled down in Vancouver. I've lived here for over 3 years now and am going to school for tourism.

Several great things:

Vancouver has beautiful, untouched forest filled with creeks, waterfalls, and whitewater rapids. Quick bus rides to Lynn Canyon, Capilano Canyon Park, and Lighthouse Park brings you to off-the-beaten track beauty away from all the tourists. While Stanley Park is awesome, these places are nature x10. Bring some beers to make it that much more a relaxing getaway.

Gastown Pubs are great to check out. Very good beer selection. Check out The Black Frog, the Alibi Room, and Six Acres for great beer selection - local stuff, not corporate swill.

Other Favorite Late Night Bars/Pubs:
-The Cambie (Cambie St. at Cordova St.)
-Corduroy (Cornwall Ave. at Walnut St.)
-The Pint (Pender St. at Abbott St.)
-The Met (Abbott St. at Cordova St.)
-The Loose Moose (Nelson St. at Granville St.)
-The Morrissey (Granville St. at Davie St.)
-The Copper Tank (West Broadway at Balaclava St.)
-The Railway Club (Dunsmuir St. at Seymour St.)

The above pubs are not the most popular, but rather where you will find honest employees and good chance to get a seat on a weekend. (Watch for a lot of bartenders and servers ripping you off at more popular bars... The Blarney Stone is bad for this)

May I also suggest these activities...
-Kayaking around False Creek and English Bay
-Hiking Grouse Mountain (the Grouse Grind... it's free)
-Summer swimming at Wreck Beach (or Third Beach)
-Yakitori Bar at Zakkushi (4th Ave at Burrard)
-Seawall activities (biking, walking, etc.)

Vancouver is a great place to drink your face off, and then get your dignity back the next day by doing something active.

The copper tank is a solid pub too! I went there for a New Year bash and it was pretty cool. Kits is a neat place

I highly reccomend the whole walking or biking around the seawall and stanely park. thats a good time!

Vancouver is a city for outdoor enthusiasts there is class hiking, biking, kayaking around here. Also a lot in the way of adventure sports, your not far from really good SCUBA diving, Hangliding, kitesurfing etc... and there are lots of shops in the city to cater to those adventures as well.

Granville island is not to be missed either, just one of the best markets for fresh seafood and other treats around.

As someone mentioned you gotta catch a show while your hear, the live music and preforming arts scene is alive and well in Vancouver so while you are out and about, pick up a copy of "The Georgia Straight" they are all over the city in coffeeshops and what not, and flip through the pages to find whats going on in the next week
