So, I am looking at a map and trying to find somewhere we could drive to in a day (easily) and rent a nice "cabin" with a fire place and such... I'm looking at Mount Revelstoke National Park or Glacier National Park as the area looks nice. But I'm hoping someone will have some other suggestions as I am just sort of randomly looking...

If I were you, I would look into Whistler, B.C. A bunch of friends and I go there every year and stay in a hotel so I don't know how that cabin lodging situation is up there, but as far as night life and quality of the mountain, it is a must. Good luck.

It depends what your looking for. Are you wanting something more mountainous or coastal? For coastal i would suggest the Sunshine Coast, Gulf islands (salt spring is my favourite), and Tofino/Uclulet ( this area is right on the west coast of Vancouver Island and facing the open pacific ocean. it's famous for storm watching in the winter months. )

Mountainous- Whistler (check out www.alluradirect.com, private vacation rental website that I have used twice), Kootenays (towns such as revelstoke, nelson, fernie)

Ditto Tofino/Uclulet. It's absolutely gorgeous and I remember staying in a cottage at the Pacific Sands Beach Resort one year, which was spectacular. Probably pretty pricey, but compared with Whistler at Christmas, not much different, I'd imagine.

I spent nearly every weekend of the first 18 years of my life on the Sunshine Coast, and most of the summers, so I have a slight bias in that direction as well. Sechelt has an interesting blend of native and "arty" community, as well as small town charm, Roberts Creek is more isolated, might have some cabins to rent, I'm not sure. Pender Harbour is my old stomping grounds, there are a few places that rent out cabins, but I'm not sure if they're open in winter, it's pretty low season around there. Ruby Lake might have cabins, or you could look a little farther north in Powell River. Those would be a fairly long day's drive from Seattle (about 5 hrs (incl ferry) to Sechelt, and another two to three to Powell River depending on the ferry schedule. Worthwhile if you're going to spend a few days, probably too far for just a weekend.

Another option that might be easier for you guys is to take the Anacortes ferry to Vancouver Island. Tofino/Uclulet have already been praised, if you want to get a sense of the small towns there, you could try Chemanius (sp?), or Nanaimo, though they're not as wildernessy as I think you're wanting. If you want to get into the mountains, you could try Mt. Washington on Vancouver Island, it's quite a popular place.

Wish I were spending Christmas on the west coast...

^^^ Hey i'm a fellow Sunshine Coaster. Well I was raised in Van. But my whole life my dad has had a cabin in Secret Cove, so i kinda grew up on the coast as well. Do you know Secret Cove? We always drove up to Pender harbour/Madeira park to dispose our garbage.

ditto on the cabins around ruby lake/sakinaw lake . Beautiful area!

We passed Secret Cove all the time on the drive, but I've probably only been in there a couple of times if we were passing by boat. Next summer I'm planning on an extended stay and will introduce my kids to the joys of coastal living. Ahhhhh.

^ It's so fun when your a kid and on the coast. I spent hours on the beach finding crabs, climbing over barnacles,
catchin minnows in tide pools. It's certainly the kind of growing up that I would want my children to have.

I live in BC and I think Whistler would be seriously pricy......my say would be jasper. Its a sweet place they have lots of cabins there are heaps of walks around, waterfalls ski resorts glaciers and such. right in the heart of the rockies, I go there almost every winter.! Or just get a cabin in alaska and a dog team, maybe a trap line or 2 lol!
