well we have only a few months left in the ski season and there arnt any topics up yet. so, how many of you are skiing or snowboarding and where will you be doing it? im currently liveing on hill at sunshine village in banff, canada. the goggle tan is getting pretty thick and with all the warm weather comeing up im sure it will get much better. anyone else getting the racoon eyes this winter?

A few MONTHS left?? You're lucky, man. Around here it's a few weeks to maybe a month.

But yeah, I just started snowboarding this year after dying to try it out forever. And I'm totally hooked.

We're looking at the slopes being open possibly through June (!!!?!?!) at Tahoe, so I'm stoked.

I think once I get back from Europe, I'll just start living at Kirkwood. 20' of powder this month already. Good lord!

Yeah, our season is pretty much done here in Toronto... I got out once due to a knee injury. So I'm not too pleased with my record this season

But here was my buddy and I out on the slopes!

end of season is may 22. thats a super long season but its a great ending for me because i gotta be home for the 27th (still gotta graduate).

Tahoe is one place i would like to ski durring my lifetime, i hear great things.

This coming week is my spring break so Im sure Ill go up at least twice. Ive been so many times this year, Im actually getting pretty good.

So I know there are tons of boarders here, but what about skiiers?

i ski. i know how it is though. it seems like 80% of the snow sport population snowboards.

Boarders are almost always outnumbered 2 to 1 by skiiers. Except maybe at night, because then most of the kids can go up after school.

The pictures I posted of Mt. Rainier were taken on a day when skiiers outnumbered boarders easily by 3 to 1. And 90% of the group lessons are people (mostly kids) on skis. I hardly ever see little kids on boards... I can probably count on one hand the number of small children on snowboards I've seen in the past two months. But there are shit tons of 'em on skiis, and they freakin' haul ass!!

Perhaps the lack of skiiers is just a California thing, then.

yeah, I kind of feel like the snowboarders are taking over in australia... so yeah, our season doesnt start for three months.... but i'm excited because i'm gonna be working in a hotel on the snow for the whole season! yayy lotsa skiing for me

I've been skiing a few times, and really wish I could give it another try, but I've never got round to it!

I think I'm a little bit unlucky (or maybe just a really bad skier) but each time I've been, I've managed to get injured somehow! I've had sprained wrists and ankles. Having said that, though, I can't be too bad, seeing as each time it's happened on the last or second-to-last day!

^ Don't feel bad, I was quite possibly the Lousiest Skiier Ever in the 6 or 7 times I went.

Well, maybe not THAT bad, but with skiing there are 4 things (besides the ground) that can hurt you... with snowboarding, it's just one plank. Waaaaay easier than skiing ever was, and a hell of a lot more fun (for me)!

I always imagined snowboarding would be way harder! I dunno, I just imagine myself falling over and snapping my legs or something!

Snowboarding tends to be easier to learn, unless you're a skier, in which case learning snowboarding can be a painful, frustrating hell (as I learned...)

Injury-wise, leg injuries are more uncommon in snowboarding, where the greatest risks are to the wrists/forearms. When both your legs are strapped on one solid board, there's far less chance of them tangling. Also makes it easier on the knees, which is why I had to make the switch. Can't say I've regretted it, but I do miss the all-out control of skis.

i found boarding to be rather easy to pick up. on my first day i could turn both ways and go straight down the run. i even tryed a jump (didnt land it tho). i thought that it was probably easyer for me to pick up boarding because i have been skiing with so many boarders for so long that i picked up the style easyer than someone who hasnt even seen someone on a snowboard.

i will however always remain a skier. i find it way more fun.

me too! I finally bought a board and some crappy-looking but comfy boots and hit the runs on Seymour here in North Van for the first time... very painful try

I was pretty much on my ass for the first hour. It was quite a sight watching me jump off the lift

, but my teacher was impressed at the end of the night when I went down the run by his side. For new years I went to Big White and boarded there: totally worth the drive!
Ironically enough my ankle and wrist were smashed in a carcrash after that trip but had never snapped or broke any body parts snowboarding or mt biking...
