When I first met my husband 7 years ago I had never ever been hiking or camping. Now I think I love it even more than him. We even went camping on our honeymoon, by choice. I've noticed that the friendliest people I meet when I travel are at the secluded camping spots; people who love to hike the trails. Has anyone else noticed this?

Oh, yea - no doubt about it. I always kind people at backcountry campsites to be super friendly and nice. I think it also has to do with the state of mind you are in when you are backcountry - so peaceful.

Yeah you said it...I'm all for camping and love of the wilderness and everything.
That being said, my honeymoon is going to have to be a little more 5 star than that!!

Wow, that is a nice tent!! I gotta tell ya, when I saw that you replied with a picture, I was thinking it was going to be a little piece of burlap cloth flung over a log or something...

All right, so for my honeymoon, we can stick that tent somewhere along a tropical beach and we'll be all good!

If you think about it, camping in a remote part of a place that you travel to is the best way to see the natural side of things. We camped for half of our honeymoon, if I could do it over I would camp for 3/4 of it.

I think camping on a honeymoon is a fantastic idea. Nothing brings two people together or apart faster than setting up a brand new tent w/o instructions. The whole cooking while camping thing also sets precident for the rest of your relationship.

^Good Point! anthon and i can fight about the silliest things like puttin' up the tent or what we're having for dinner (like their is that much variety when choosing from lipton packets ), but when it comes to taking in beautifully remote places, we're like peas in a pod.

yea, i noticed that too Hotmomma. i think it's just the nature of the place that you are in that does it (no pun intended). i mean, i meet the the nicest people and have the best experiences while in the backcountry but i could still go home to chicago and hold my own in city traffic (i just moved to seattle from chicago). i'm a pretty peaceful, humble person and i just try to do right by other people, but when it comes to living in the south sides of Chicago where some guy tries to buy you off you brother (i was 14) while you're walking down the street, or your little backyard BBQ gets barged in on by some bored local gang members looking for a fight, you learn fast that it's all relative. i've always found it just fascinating that when you are on the trail, everything just seems right with the world! this is why i am so interested in doing long distance hiking. in one of Karen Berger's books she referred to it as "trail magic."
