Default Bored lately... time to camp.

I've been pent up in the house because of crappy weather and it looks like it might be nice for the next day or two. I need to get outside for sure. I think after work tonight I am going to go home, gear up, throw some stuff in my pack and head to the train tracks near my house.

These are not commuter tracks but more like traintracks for moving cargo via train to warehouses and what not along the tracks so at least a train won't come by more than three or four times a day. I have no idea where they go though. I have been wondering more and more lately but decided this will make a nice weekend to find out. It also gives me a reason to get out of the house for a night or two. I figure if I find something cool out there, bonus. If not, well it beats doing nothing.

I figure I will bring my tent and just kind of pitch it off the tracks somewhat (so I don't get killed hehe) but close enough where the coyotes out there might stay back a bit and camp out at night and during the day just keep on walking. I figure I will pop in and out of areas where it cuts through towns or what not but some of the area will be pretty cool where there is nothing around whatsoever except the nature itself. Well, I figure nobody else will be but for all I know there will be people living out there.

Wish me luck...

Good Luck Man!!!! That sounds like a great plan. Lately I've been thinking about going off and camping by myself. It takes a lot of guts (at least for me) and seems daunting to be off by yourself, espically at night.

Generally it isn't too bad. I will definitely get paranoid a few time though. That's because I will inevitably hear something and then start thinking it is a crazed raccoon coming for blood or a coyote getting in too close hehe.

The only thing that stinks out there though sometimes is getting a fire going. I won't be totally in woods since most of the layour back there is a mixture of woods and swamp so sometimes finding good wood is kind of hard. That's when it makes you most paranoid is when your sitting in pitch black and hear that stuff. Oh well, that's part of the adventure.

We used to everynow and then as kids. We would ride one out to get downtown from an area near us to the next city over. It used to rock - till a kid we grew up with lost a leg and that pretty much put the end to that. Granted we were not there when he did it because it was a year or so after we stopped for the most part but he tried it in college while drunk and well, the train won.

Where I will be even if they did see smoke or whatever, they aint coming for me. I will be maybe ten miles off road through swap, marsh, and thick woods. Granted they can follow the train tracks but thats not much better. It is pretty solo out there.

That's rough...

I think train-hopping is on my list of things to only do while sober.

hehe, Yeah, that was pretty much a given hehe. Although it also kind of helps too since I will just glide through the first two hours or so. The only thing that sucks is that by the time I get home and pack I should have a good twenty minutes of light or so to start in. After about 30 minutes or so it will turn pretty dark and within and hour pitch black. That's when it gets fun. I figure I will hike it about two hours out in the dark though.

I'll try not to die, it'll give you someone to IM late nights still.

Just a crazed racoon man that's mild compared to what my paranoid ass comes up with.... I've seen too many horror movies. I start imaging psycho killers on the loose....you know combine Jason with the Hills have Eyes....

I had a small fire going and it held up against it for a little while but it was small and eventually gave out on me. The storm came in fast and only last like two hours or so and I was warm and dry so it wasn't bad.

The next day it melted down pretty fast so outside was muddy but manageable. It was cool too cause I saw a couple of foxes out there playing in the snow and stuff. Made me miss the ones that used to live behind my parents house that I taght to play fetch.
