Default addicted...crap

So I guess you could say I've always been a climber (if not in the traditional sense of the word....more like on trees, free-style on rocks, poles etc ~I love to climb!) yet I've never really gotten into climbing like with equipment and stuff. I did it a bit when I was younger but never really seriously.

Anyways I just started up again recently and I have realised that I am already addicted. Maybe it's because I have no life currently, as I'm working 2 full time jobs but it's all I want to do, and unfortunately I can only do it on weekends (again, because of the 2 full time jobs). I can go this weds because I booked it off for halloween (yes!!) but I want to go TODAY dammit!!! This is going to be a problem......

climbing is a crazy addictive sport... I keep looking at my rope in my closet and it keeps taunting me. I need to get out there and start up again!

Haha, good to hear you've started up climbing again, and it's even better to hear that you're psyched about it, it's hard to find people that are super keen on climbing.

I can completely relate to your situation. I only really get to climb on weekends too, and even then it's not every weekend. My biggest problem is finding people to climb with. It's damn hard to find a realiable and keen climbing partner around this town. I've had heaps of people go "yeah man, I'll come climbing with you all the time", but it seems that their definition of "all the time" and my definition are two completely different things. I can't find anybody that wants to climb nearly as often as I do.

But, I have managed to find 3 mildly motivated climbing partners, and between them I can get out almost every weekend. When uni holidays start the climbing partner numbers should increase again.

Side note: I onsighted some very run-out 5.10c/d routes the other week....oh yeah!! 5.11 is just around the corner!

Oh, and nice 'pole climbing' style

"on-sited"

Such a primitive word! We call it "flashed"

^ Actually, hun they're 2 different words (yeah, I've been looking up terminology how cool am I?)

on-site flash or "flash"= climbing without looking at the route whatsoever before-hand or getting any advice from other climbers on how to do it and making it on your first attempt w/o "dogging" or resting at all

on-site= climbing after perhaps mapping out your path before hand or getting advice from someone who's done it before without rest

Haha, yeah I climb with some real old school blokes, they were climbing in the days before cams, so i've probably picked up a heap of "primitive" words.

Yeah that's where I go because it's the most downtown location and I can just walk (it takes about the same amount of time as the subway/streetcar)

It IS damn hard to find other people super keen on climbing, I'm trying to force my friends to go and my brother but it doesnt seem to be going so well, ah well I suppose there's always bouldering when no one else wants to come.

And congrats on the 5.10c!! That's awesome.

You live in a city right? There would definately be some climbing message boards or a climbing club in your city. Do a google search and I guarantee you'll find something.

Yep, that's what I end up doing when I can't find anyone else to climb with, me and the dog go and tackle some boulders. It's great for working on climbing specific strength.

Does anyone else see this as codewords that I think might be related to that pole picture?

climbing rocks, but i'm finding its not so much the climbing any more, its the rush of enomorphs and seratonine you get after a climb, i do feel proper stoned after a good session, so good.

and the sense of flow you get, when your working a boulder problem, or you leading a route on your edge, but every movement is clean, your in balance is perfect, and your placements are precise and bomb.

And that stomach gripping, mind ripping, fear, the head game, when you put yourself beyond your limits, you've placed gear, but is it solid? your above it, but your in a rest spot, you can't move, your still strong, but you cant actually let go and move, you can see your moves, the next gear, but still you cannot move. You stay put, and fatigue, or you commit and see how good you, your gear, and your belayer really are. You remove your self from the climb, you centre yourself, your relax, you move, you commit. you place your next bit of gear, you climb on, you have no choice, no option of a down climb. You reach, its a small sloper, but the friction is good, you go to move your foot pops and you see your gear go past your face. but it held, and your belayer stopped the fall. you've never felt more alive.

Climbing is fucking awesome when its good and when its poopants bad.

I'd rather have a bad day climbing than a great day in the office
