Snow Shoes

Hi,
I have recently become interested with snowshoeing and was wondering if anyone else is too. I think I am going to grab a pair after christmas this year and maybe do some day hikles down the train tracks near me (not commuter so trains barely ever go by more than twice a day) or some of the stateland that I have all behind my house for miles and miles.

I was just wondering if anyone else goes or what they thought of it if they tried before. Any tips or reccomendations?

I've gone snow shoeing a couple of times and its a lot of fun. I'm itching to go again at the moment.

I am going to try going to this place called America's Stonehedge up in NH. I have gone there hiking before and exploring the stones, but they offer snowshoeing in the winter as well. I figure I can give it a try there and see how it goes. I also live across the street from a state forest so I figure that would be a cool place to explore on them too.

Yeah thats like the forrest behind my house. I moved there like a year ago and have only explored like a 1/4 mile of it or so. That's nothing but now that I am more settled in at home I want to try to really find out more of what is in there and where it goes.

I also have these train tracks near me that are basically unexplored by me. I know that they run for miles and miles in each direction. They are not commuter lines but more like frieght ones so trains go by like twice a day if that. I want to pack a bag and some gear and go follow those for a day or so as well.

When I lived up in colorado one of my responsibilities was leading snow shoe hikes. Some of my favorite memories are telling people, especially schoolkids, to remove their straps and step off the shoes into the snow.

Watching them fall right down to their waists or chests always brought me great pleasure...

umm... my only experience with snowshoeing was when i went to mammoth lakes and did a three mile hike in like... 10-13 ft. snow...

my opinion is probably very biased, because i had never (never ever ever) done any sort of long distance hiking at that point, so i was pretty much miserable, aaand not to mention that my snow shoe kept getting undone (eventually we ran into a couple who knew what they were doing, and who helped me out).

besides that, it was pretty enjoyable, and it was a lot better on the hike down
