How big do you guys recommend a backpack be. Going to Europe for about 6 weeks and don't really plan on doing any serious hiking or camping, just cities and small towns. I'm more concerned with weight and size than the variety of clothes I can take (totally willing to wear shirts many, many times without washing--gotta love college).

It seems like it would be cheaper and lighter to get a 40L, but they're also harder to find than 50-60L. Any thoughts?

Futboller & Kara:

here's the catch:

Without saying one bag versus an other (I have an Eagle Creek Transcontinental Journey. Now since discontinued), the best thing you can do is find a store that has a variety of different sized bags. We've covered the topic pretty thoroughly as to size of bag vs trip length. What worked for me was WAY too big for a girl I met on the trip, who had the same exact bag as I did.

Anyway, go to a store like an EMS or REI or a local outdoors store. Try on a few different sized packs to get an idea of what fits your frame well. If you're 5 feet tall and 90 lbs, the Eagle Creek Ultimate Explorer is gonna be WAY too big. But there is unfortunately no way to tell via the Innerweb. Then, decide what the biggest your frame can handle is, and then move on from there. You'll find a way to pack what you'll need for your trip once you have the bag.

As for me, I tested Victorinox (way too much $$), Eagle Creeks, REI brands, etc. I settled on mine because of many reasons. But I bought mine on Ebay because it saved me $100!

Anyway, the FAQ at the top of the forum is pretty helpful. Check it out!

Sorry Forum!

I am kArA from San Diego. I am going to be studying abroad in Madrid for 3 and a half months and then I will venture to Italy, France, Germany and then fly out of Amsterdam. I am 23 years old and will be turning 24 while in Spain. I am a St Patties baby. I've been to Thailand and Costa Rica twice. I spend all my extra money on traveling, cause who needs shit when you have great memories.

So maybe this bag is good?

ps I even put a pic in this time!

Heheh, awesome! St Pat's is my favorite holiday. Its 8 days after my birthday, so needless to say I get a double birthday every year! :D

Anyway, if you used a link that doesn't work, check the link itself. If it ends in .jpg or .gif, then it oughta work. also, make sure the tags are set properly: before the link, it should be "img" and after the link, it should be "/img" in the [ ] brackets. (it won't let you type it out for some reason w/o a tag...
