For those of you that have ordered anything from NorthernMountain.com, especially the Dana Design Swift Traveler '04, how long did it take to get it? I'm a bit pissed, I ordered my pack on Dec. 18th and I still don't have it. I'm leaving on the 19th so this is kinda important. I'm getting a bit pissed off here. And its impossible to get a straight answer outta these guys on when my pack shipped, they only give vague answers like "last week," or "you'll get it soon."
Its being shipped to an overseas military address so the shipping tracker doesn't show anything, understandable, but I know it takes 7-11 days for packages to get here, and its been far longer than that. They're using this as an excuse for the package to take so damn long, bad excuse.
Anyways, I'm ranting now. So anyone have any experience with them?

I haven't ordered from them specifically but I did have a frustrating time getting my pack as well. (Ordered from REI.com) I lived out in the country and the FedEx guy couldn't find my house so my package just sat in a truck for days and days until I finally got on the phone with the driver and gave him step by step instructions on how to get to my house.
Anyway...not much help I know, but I hope you get your pack soon! Is there a customer relations number you can call at all? Sometimes being nice about this stuff doesn't get the job done. I'm not saying to be an utter asshole or anything because that won't get it there any quicker either. But is there someone you can get an exact answer from? Even though the tracker won't tell you exactly where it is on the computer, they will always have a way of finding out where it is. Good luck!

I have ordered from them without a problem. I got everything when expected and trouble free.
The real problem is that really, once they ship it is is up to FedEx, UPS, USPS, whoever to take it from there, to you.

One more day down, one more day without my pack. grrrrrrr
I have called them, they beat around the bush and give approximate dates, almost like they don't even know just when it shipped.

YAY! Finally. It's very frustrating when you're waiting for something that never seems to come though eh?
Anyway, enjoy the pack, I have the same one and it's great.

Yeah, its awesome! There's just too many straps and adjustments and ways to pack stuff. And this whole idea of "suspension" is confusing. This should probably be a new topic, but . . .
What exactly is this suspension on a backpack all about? I know this sounds stupid, but maybe if I understood it better I'd be able to adjust it a bit better.

Suspension is about getting the load off of your shoulders. I'm not great at doing adjustments, but here is a primer.
Put it on and cinch up the shoulder straps (adjustments by lower ribcage) until it rides at a good height. The buckel the belt, making sure it is pretty snug, but not so snug that it hinders breathing. Then, loosen the shoulder straps a bit. You'll feel the weight transfer from your shoulders to your hips. The adjustment at the top of your straps effect load transfer and stability. If they're tight, the pack will be close to your back and it'll be stable on uneven terrain (i.e. hiking), but it will hinder your motion a little and put a bit more weight on your shoulders. If you loosen the straps, the pack will lean away from your upper back just a bit, transfering even more weight to your hips. The downside is that it'll flop around a bit more, but this is usually fine for urban areas.
