Swiss Army Knife

My Godmother got me a great Swiss Army Knife for Christmas....thought it would be useful for traveling.

However, looking at the diagram of the knife, there are 35 different features on the thing. I can only find like....6 of them!! Where are all these little hidden features that this dork can't find?!? I'm such a nerd with this outdoorsy stuff. I can find the totally obvious ones like the big knife, the corkscrew, the can opener, the scissors....ummm.....not much else! I think I need a swiss army knife class...

Any tips/hints/general making fun of me is welcomed...

speaking of that..whats the deal with travelling with a swiss army knife. will they let you fly with it, i mean obivously not carry on but like can u check it in a bag?

Check it...you could always bring it on as carry on if you want to find out what a holding cell looks like

No problem with checking it. I had a swiss army knife. When I came back and went through customs they x-rayed my bags, saw the knife. Guy asked me "Is there a knife in your bag?" I said "Yes, it's a small swiss army knife." He said "Ok then." Don't know about carry on.

What can't you find? Does it have a list of features?

Yes it has a list of features on it and a diagram to show what they are. BUT it doesn't show WHERE to find them on the knife. I have taken all the features that I can find and put them out but can't really see where I am missing the other 30 things!

That does sound like a mystery. Mine is pretty basic, just the 5 or 6 main functions, so I can't help with the super deluxe model. Checking the knife in your checked baggage should be no problem, but if you're really concerned, call the airline and ask about their policy.

I used to have a pretty big Swiss Army knife, so I'm familier with them. I can't tell you where to find a certain feature if you don't tell me what you're looking for though. Write out a list of what you can't find.

Also note that multiple features will be designed onto a single "blade". For instance, the can opener is probably also a small flat-head screwdriver. The bottle opener is a larger flat-head screwdriver, and also has a notch in it for stripping wires (although it is a pretty ineffectual wire stripper). The toothpick and tweezers pull out of the red face plate- look for a grey tab and a beige tab on the faceplate and slide them out with your fingernail.

Just go ahead and write out a list of what else you can't find and I'm sure we can help you find them. We just don't know what to tell you right now because you haven't told us what you're looking for.

Love my knife when travelling, or just day to day as well. It is in my pocket now. I carry a leatherman pretty much always and everyday almost something comes in handy with it. I mean yesterday I used it to open a door here at work that doesn't have a handle (They thought that would keep me out) on the outside of it. This morning I used it as a punch tool and wire stripper in my house for installing networking cable.

I use it on the road all the time as well. I always check it and nobody ever asks me anything about it.

Thanks guys I was able to find the main things I was looking for. Its amazing how all that stuff can be put into a little package like that. And I will put it in my suitcase so I don't have any troubles at the airport. Thanks again.

i think they even count the keyring as a function. so they try to sneak in as many as they can for advertising.
i went to kenya, brasil, panama and a few other places with a swiss army and a small folding knife in my checked pack, and the only thing to ever happen was in a very small airport in panama where they checked luggage by hand. the guy asked me if i wanted to sell my folding knife to him.

I never had any problem with my knife, lighters, or aerosol deoderant in my checked pack. Even when they did search it (AA searched it 3 or 4 times) they didn't care.

Dont forget the tweezers and the toothpick on the end. Also, I think I read somewhere that small pocket knives are now being let onto flights.
