Hey everyone!
Well, the time has come...I've got my first true traveler's pack!
I went with the Dana Design Swift Traveler. After recommendations from benna and very favorable reviews of Dana Design packs in general, I figured what the hell...so far, I'm satisfied and quite excited.

I'm still figuring everything out with it, but it looks like this baby's gonna serve me well in the next year. Here's a picture of it:

although mine is jet black. The only thing it is missing is a T-Punk patch! So we need to hurry up on that

Anyways, just thought I'd share my excitement. I need something positive in my day today. It's been a stressful one!

Nice! I am using a Dana Design Far Flung for my trips and I absolutely love it. I got it for $99 online shipped. Mine is green but it will do just fine. It holds a lot and has tons of pockets of stuff. This is way better than my old Eagle Creek. I am ready for the road!

Yea, if I could get a T-Punk patch I would put that on my backpack right away! Hopefully that will before I leave for my trip in early may....

HAHA I've turned Tpunk into a Dana Design club, but I am glad, they and Marmot make amazing packs!

Congrats on the new pack

Thanks y'all...yeah, I think it may be tough for me to truly get into the "backpacker" mode where I accept and embrace the idea of the less I pack, the happier my back will be! After the next few months of living out of it, which will include a month or so in Europe, I think I'll adjust better to the idea.

Anthon...so you're the one responsible! Perhaps we should negotiate special deals with Dana for T-punkers

Hey I was just reading some old posts and you mentioned something about Saskatoon Sask?!?! Is that where you live Xanthuos? Cuz thats where I'm from! Sorry, completly off topic but its such a small little place, it kind of blew my mind that it was mentioned.

my friend in maine was cool enough to take a few pictures of me wearing my new Swift Traveler!

Scabbybones...do you currently live in Saskatoon or did you move someplace better like SO many people from Saskatchewan do?
As for living there...I tried to. My family moved to Saskatoon two years ago. I had a very sour experience, however, and I'm now back in the US (which I couldn't be happier about!).

Yeah I live here, have my whole life. It's not so bad, what kind of sour experience did you have? Personally, and no offence to anyone but I would much rather live in Canada than the US. Sorry just personal opinion.

I won't take offense to that...but I have to ask why you make such a statement when you have only lived in Saskatoon your whole life? What is it about Canada versus the US that makes you not want to live in the US?
I've experienced life in both countries. For many reasons, Saskatoon was not the place for me. As for details on the sour experience I had, it's not important to express them - to sum it up, I think I'm just better off living in America.

All righty, well I think it's time for the devil's advocate to make an appearance!!

Xan, it really sucks that you had a bad experience living in Saskatchewan. But seriously, that is one tiny province in the whole country! Canada is huge and has some of the most beautiful and majestic places I personally have ever seen! You are though, totally entitled to your own personal opinion, I just would hate to see it clouded over by bad experiences in one town.

I grew up in Canada and it will always be considered my "home." I have also lived in the United States (Texas, California, New York and New Jersey) and visited many other states besides those. To compare both would be impossible to me however. I have heard people (Americans) say that Canada is so much cleaner and the people are so much friendlier in Canada...but yet living in the American places I have lived, I encountered wonderful people. Yes...even in New York City!! There are things that I love about both countries and I personally wouldn't be able to turn my back on either one. There are certain attitudes that I have witnessed in people of both countries that I really find less than appealing, but I would say that that is more a product of their own upbringing than the country they grew up in.

I think that people of both countries are just very patriotic and will always choose "their" country over the other.

Unhappy

Um, how the heck did a conversation about a backpack turn into a debate-- albeit so far a friendly one-- about the merits of living in Canada vs. the US??? There's a non sequitur if I've ever seen one.

Sorry, but every time there's a Canada vs US discussion, people take it waaaay too seriously and it gets out of control. Let's just agree to disagree, mmkay?

Sure thing SV!! I definately did not want to start a debate in any way. And I got the topic back on track with my comment about the pack didn't I?

I wasn't trying to start a fight or anything either... and I haven't lived anywhere else but I have travelled all over North America so I have seen and encountered things in both places as well. I'm not trying to talk shit about America either because I do like it there, and I know there are pros and cons for both, I just personally enjoy Canada and Canadian people more. Everyone always has a soft spot for their home tho....

Yeah, I'd definitely say a good portion of my "bad" experience was because I was in Saskatoon versus somewhere like Vancouver or Toronto...and please don't take that as an insult, Scabby - Saskatoon is relatively the smallest place I've ever lived...and I just didn't take too well to that. However, and I'll keep it friendly when I say this - the other portion of my sour experience in Saskatoon was because of things Canada-wide. Everyone can agree to disagree, and there are always pros and cons to every country. In this situation, personally, I found more cons than pros for life in Canada (not just Saskatoon)...and so I felt that I'm just better off back in the United States.

But yeah, I love my pack! And to add another country to the mix, it was made in Vietnam!
