My Dad wants to buy me a couple of things for Xmas for my trip to Oz in March.. what should I ask for?
I could ask for a pack.. or a pair of decent walking shoes then i thought.. do girls tend to wear sandles or walking shoes? or just stick it out with a few pairs of flipflops - ouch!

One thing is to consider where and when you will be visiting certain parts of Oz. The southern part of the country does have a cool to cold winter - not good for sandles. Also, some higher elevations may be cooler as well. Just something to consider. Walking shoes are probably a better overall option of it is either or.

depends on where youll be walkin... if you go out in the bush id where walking shoes coz theyd be more comfortable wo wear + protect your feet from those fricken jumping jack bull ants... also some clubs/pubs wont let you in with sandles on. and your most likely gonna need the shoes at some time during your trip.. its better to get your dad to buy the more expensive shoes for you where as you could just buy a pair of sandles down here

Hey, I'm in the same boat as you are. My mom is going to buy my pack for me for xmas, along with some other much needed travel accesories. I am taking both sandals and shoes. The sandals I bought are Reef sandals and they are awesome. They aren't designed for hiking or anything but I have never had a more comfortable pair of sandals. I'm also gonna bring along a pair of shoes, probably just some etnies or other skate shoes. I don't plan on doing too much hiking or bush walking so I figure regular stuff will be fine.

Just make sure that you bring a pair of flip flops along with you. All the backpacker bars over there are way casual. Get a black pair and you can wear it with a skirt and ta da got a nice casual beachy outfit to wear while get sloshed.
