Hello all- Question for everyone- in your experience did you need a sleep sheet in the hostels? in other words were the sheets always clean? I just don't want to lug around something extra that I won't use. Thanks!!

yes bring a sleep sheet! I used the sheet every single night. My sleep sheet comes with a fold that you can stick a pillow under. (kinda like a built in pillow case) So it was nice to know that there was some sort of barrier between the pillow and my mouth! It's also good for hot nights. SInce a sleep sheet has the same design as a sleeping bag I used it to my advantage and stuck my wallet down it so no one could get to it while i was sleeping. To save space you could spend extra money and buy a silk one. Because they roll up much smaller. But I had a cotton one and found it just fine.

Yep...I've had a bad experience with a pillow in a hotel in an ameridian village in BC where I got stuck...I caught pink eye coz I slept the whole night with one side of my face on the pillow!!! One friend got some fleas in a youth hostel...A girl told me that while backpacking in France, she worked in a nice hotel, where the owner told her not to wash the sheets but just to air them out a bit before putting them back on the beds!!!! I always carry my sleeping bag with me!

Dio, LOVE the idea of sticking your $ in the sleep sheet!!! I'm one of those super paranoid people, so I think I'm going to bring two sleep sheets and two pillowcases.
thanks for the tip!

A good thing if you are going when it might be a bit chilly-grab the blanket they give you on the airplane. That thing folds up small and kept me pretty warm on train stations floors!
