Thumbs up

My question is simple - which shoes do I bring for my trip?

I'm going for 3 weeks and I will be doing a lot of different things - clubbing in Paris and Prague, hiking in the Alps, and enjoying the beach in Nice. I definately think comfortable shoes with lost of support are a must and I'm not a huge fashion freak, but on the other hand when I go out dancing to clubs I can't wear sneakers with my cute little top and black pants.

So what do I bring with me? I keep hearing the same advice - good pair of hiking/walking shoes, sports sandals and a pair of nice shoes for going out. But 3 pairs of shoes for 3 weeks seems so excessive! I still have a bit of time left till I take off for Europe, but I have started thinking about shoes (if I need to buy a new pair, then I need to break them in first).

NOOOOO not a another shoe question... ha ha just kidding

I think that you need to post a picture of you in your cute top with your black pants, then we can better assess the situation

I vote that if you really feel that you need the nice shoes than ditch the athletic sandals and pick a pair of flip flops they don't take up much room and they can also serve as your shower shoes.

Good point Adam - I haven't thought about shower flip-flops, but dorm style communal showers definately call for them.

As for the picture of the outfit... I can't promise anything

I used my flip-flops in the shower and to go out. Or a cute small kind of sandal is fine to go out in. I'm not a big freak on fashion either so it was fine for me to shower and go out in and black ones always look nice

I recently bought a pair of black Vans that are great for every occasion. They are black so I can wear them to swankier places with dress codes and they are skate shoes so they are comfortable for everyday use as well. Just get a black pair of all purpose shoes.

i got a pair of teva terra-fi. they are super dooper, and arent too big. i also have a pair of Merrell Chameleon's, these ones are made mostly for hiking but look nice enough to wear around town.

i was going to get another pair of flipflops, super cheap ones, for showering, but id probably end up just using my sandals.

I'd take comfy walking/hiking shoes and a pair of dressier sandals that you could wear to both the beach and a club. Black, or something with lots of beads would suit both, and being flat soled and skinny they wouldn't take up much room or weight. I just wear my Bama sandals for everything, but I don't go clubbing, I doubt they'd pass the style gate...but then, neither would I!

Considering my last pair of hikers fell over dead I broke down over the weekend and went out shoe shopping. I ended up buying a pair of Merrell Mesa Ventilators and I love them. So the hiking/walking portion of the trip is taken case of. I'm thinking that a the all around pair of back sandals is the way to go along a pair of cheap shower flip flops.

Thanks for all the advice everyone!

Ok, so no matter how many people have told me/will told me, I'm taking my combat boots with me. Big, clunky, goofy, heavy, but goddamnit, I love 'em.

But...chances are, the weather might be pretty nice, so I'm gonna need some sandals.

I have a crap pair for the shower (extensively chewed apart by my cats)

But what else??

Some sandals...sturdy but comfortable...but my feet are horrifically white!

Or some hiking/trail shoes. Black? Can't wear white socks with those!?!?

If I have to get into any sort of swanky club, I can just throw on my spit-shined Boots of +5 Sexiness..sry, I love those things...

Any ideas? Suggestions! Criticisms, etc.

(Basically, what brands can I trust?)

I swear by the German brand Bama (mens, womens and kids), but I don't know if they're widely available outside Europe. Mostly we have their walking sandals, but they also make normal shoes with good soles and some of them are even stylish. Not too expensive either.

I gotta agree with Arbiter... combat boots are clunky, bulky and not entirely appropriate everywhere, but with a good insole, you can't beat em for durability and wear.

For everything else, though, flip-flops or sandals are the bomb (and they take up far less space)
