Okay this is a really dumb question, but I'm slowly starting to buy for my 7 month trip to Spain and I know I need one of those converters to be able to use my hair straightener and blow dryer and all that jazz... where can I find one and how much do they cost?

And also, I'm going to Mexico in a few weeks... will I need one there? (It's Cancun, if this helps)

A good one will run you $40 USD at radio shack. I have used mine for just about everything and it has a high wattage output (which is what you need for a blowdryer). Spend the money so it doesn't burn out half way thru your trip!

Talk to others who have done study abroad... they might have a converter they'll let you borrow or have. Check your electronics for voltage limits... things like laptops, camera chargers, and so forth might already have built in voltage regulators (and will only require a wall/ prong adapter- about .50 to 1.00 at a hardware store). The other option might be to buy cheap appliances when you get there, and sell them right before you leave to another traveller.

You should not need on in Mexico.
