Question

Ok Guys I need a nice tent. It needs to be able to hold 2 people + gear. I need a tent that will be able to be used heavily and often. It has to be at least 3-season (perfer 4 if possible). I will be backpacking with this tent and would prefer for it to weigh less than 5 lbs (roughly 2.28kg). I am looking to spend no more than 300 USD for it. Is this feasable? Tent shopping is difficult and I am looking for good insight from you guys that have a good one already? Any brands or materials that I should stay away from/prefer? I have been looking for weeks! Help!!

goto your local REI (if you live in the states) and tell them you want a 2 person 3/4 season tent and they will hook you up. I am big fan of the Mountain Hardwear tents. make sure you buy a footprint too so the bottom doesnt get ripped.

Thanks Jake! I have an REI 1/2 mile from here. I just figured they were overpriced like they are on everything else, but if I have to do it to get a good tent then so be it. I am gonna be traveling for a LONG time and quality is important.

no way man REI has really good prices on shiznotty during their sales and online in their clearance section thingy. I love REI. Pay the 15 bones to become a member. You get a check type thingamabobby in February every year for 10% of whatever you spent there last year. Not a lot but it's pretty cool... I somehow got one for 120 dollars last february. Hmm maybe thats why I have 9g in credit cards bills...

they do seem a bit on the pricy side...but i guess 1 tent for 500 or a bucnh that keep falling apart for 150 each....judgment call i guess

I would check out Sierra Designs tents, find one you really like and then shop for it at REI and/or other companies and find it on sale somewhere. Sierra makes amazing 3/4 season tents!
