Hey guys I had another question for you guys regarding my trip to Europe/Dubai coming up this summer. I would love to bring a suitcase to Europe and then a daypack for lugging around all my essentials during the day. I however, don't know if they're will be places to lock my suitcase up. I don't really need the suitcase for Europe but I would love it for Dubai because I will be staying there longer and I would also like to bring back a lot of stuff home to Canada. So is it reasonable to bring a suitcase to Europe with me for 2 weeks if I stay in hostels that cost roughly 35(usd)?

Don't quote me for sure, but I would think many backpacks actually have more capacity then a suitcase, and also many of them include separate day packs with them. But the choise is up to you... Most hostels will have a place for you to store your backpack/suitcase. Or you can always chain it to your bed or whatever. I think backpacks might even be a bit easier to secure with locks compared to most suitcases.

I think if you got a backpack it would be a hell of a lot easier to get around as well.

Try carrying a 20-30lbs suitecase for 2 hours and I'm sure your arm will be ready to fall off!

I would be a bit sketched out lugging around a suitecase, if you need to look at a map you're going to have to put it down. This would be the perfect time for someone to run off with it. Backpacks are great b/c you have both hands avaliable.

You could always buy a suitecase at the end of your trip if you want to bring more stuff home.

GET A BACKPACK!!! i have brought one wjile my idiot friends brought suitcases!! Now they have to throw out most of their stuff and one of their parents are coming over to collect another big load.... trust me you can get so much more in a backpack

Backpack is definetely the way to go, also PACK LIGHT, somewhere in this forum there's a thread with awesome hints on how to pack light, what to take, things you can get at your destination, believe me, I've done both ways: Huge suitcase and small backpack and you don't even end up using all your stuff anyways.....

Alright, well I think you guys have convinced me that the backpack is the way to go. Thanks for all the input as always it is much appreciated.

Another question I have is do most hostels have lockers for you to put your backpacks in and also are they big enough to fit a 60-70L pack? If not what do you guys do with your packs at night? Do you simply lock them up and chain them to your bed or?

i brought 2 duffle bags and a school backpack last time and im bringing the same thing next time. it worked fine, i didn't really travel around that much where i needed my duffle bags, i stayed in only 3 different places though totally 2 and half weeks. it worked great though, i just carried the duffle bags around, then brought my school backpack on the trains, buses, and planes with stuff inside like a cd player, book, money, camera, and anything to keep me occupied. then in the duffle bags i just had my clothes and stuff. anyways, that's just my 2 cents.

i have something to add actually:

backpacks are better then duffle bags or suitcases if you don't know where you'll be staying. when i was traveling with my duffle bags the first thing i did was head straight to the place, drop of my stuff and then go out and look around, but if you're going to a place and have to look for somewhere to say then i would recommend a backpack because it's annoying to carry stuff for long amounts of time.
