Ok, today I talked to a buddy of mine who goes to Europe backpacking more than I go to the bathroom. So I thought about it, and said what the hell..

After much research.. I found a site that has the best prices and good shipping rates (I needed it overnighted) Anyhoo.. Here it is BAM MAD GUMBY GOLD! (CLICK HERE!!)

Yeah, I've seen these and they look like they work well. Never got one because I figured I'd never really use it.

Yeah, it is a good idea....I got one and took it with me this past summer and didn't use it once and I'll probably never use it. It is pretty easy to use, from the one time I tried it before leaving but it takes awhile to stuff your bag in and get the thing all set up, so really I couldn't be bothered. Plus you see everyone else just leaving their bag in the room and don't want to look like a paranoid jerk who thinks the other people will steal stuff. I think the most important thing is really just not having anything valuable in your bag that you leave. 99 out of 100 people are not going to come in and steal your clothes, so if you always keep your credit card/passport/etc on you at all times you should be fine.

Ya'all makin me feel bad now! I don't wan't to look like a tool box locking my stuff up... I guess it's too late since I just ordered it a few hours ago. I guess I will have better sleep on the train knowing that my bag will be a big tougher to stell than others....

Oh, I'm sorry, I didn't mean to make you feel bad. Yeah I can pretty much guarantee that your bag won't get stolen using that thing, unless someone has really heavy duty wire cutters or something. Anyway, I think I am just lazy when it comes to stuff like that....but you're obviously not, so more power to ya

I took a PacSafe with me last year and got a lot of milage out of it. Pretty much all of the hostels I stayed at in Central Europe didn't have lockers and there are lots of problems with Gypsies entering the hostel as a traveler and cleaning the place up. The place I stayed in Prague had a secured front door with a buzzer and camera to enter yet people still had packs stolen on a nightly basis. One guy in Cesky Krumlov had his entire pack stolen from beside his bed (2 beds away from mine) in the middle of the night while we all slept.

I supposed a simple cable & lock would also do the trick. The PacSafe is supposed to also protect from someone slashing your bag to get inside, but I doubt thats as big of a problem as someone picking it up and walking away with it.

I think it's worth it for the piece of mind. I don't care if other people think I'm a tool for having it. If it makes me feel better, I can enjoy my trip.

I bought one for my trip this summer, but never used it once. I just never felt uncomfortable in the places that I stayed, and I always had my important stuff on me.

Speaking of...if anyone wants a brand new PacSafe, I would give you a killer deal on one, they are usually about $60 and I'll take an offer on it! Just PM me...

I Was actually looking at the daysafe that that site features. Are the slashing of daypacks a problem that has some merit making it worth the investment? sucker is lined with steel mesh.
