I was looking at my fabulous local target store and saw a few first aid kits but decided not to buy one right away. I'm not really sure about all the stuff that should go in one for a backpacking trip. I don't wanna bring too much stuff, but I don't want to forget something either.

I am thinking of just buying the stuff I need and just making my own kit.

If anyone has done this, what was in yours?

The bag it comes in is ever waterproof. I took a couple things out and added a couple things of my own, that way its customized to how much of a clutz you are!

making my own. they really should differ depending on the length of your trip and the kind of trip you are on. im going to be in mostly urban settings (i.e. london, dublin etc.) so i am more worried about things like the poops

and blisters...things like that. if i was going longer and more rural...i would have more bandage, anistectic type stuff too.

Yeah, take some pepto biz and some mole skin.. those 2 came in handy!

Thats a good idea. I leave for Mexico in a little over a month and hadn't really thought about this much until now. I have a little pouch that is waterproof and will work nicely for a small first aid kit.

I figure I will put the pepto, a few bandainds, some mole skin and other little things I can think of in that pouch.

Any other ideas for first aid stuff for Mexico? We will be basically just walking and traveling all over so not sure where we will wind up at.

It is for blisters and stuff on your feet. It is basically a protective layer of skin that goes over your blisters and buys you some time before they leave you hobbling along.

here is what i have in mine so far for a short multi-city tour:

new skin(mole skin)
band aids
tylenol PM
excedrin tension (i get the occasional migrane)
immodium
(i need to add an antihytemine-cat allergies)

what else?

You have the basics covered - I'd also include some alcohol swabs, gauze pads and a pair of tweezers (they come in handy for removing splinters or insect stingers). Other then that possibly a small tube of polysporin.

That should cover the most common injuries.

If you're going back country or remote i'd also recommend some butterfly stitches, benedryl pills (everything from poison oak to unknown food allergies to bug bites) and water purification tablets (taste like vomit, but you'll survive drinking local water)
