Im curious! anybody have tips on the best soaps for travel? I use Castile soap (both peppermint and tea tree) and I find it perfect as it can double up for shampoo.

I use Ivory soap...and I use it to was my hair as well...saves about 1/2 lb in weight in my bag as oppose to taking a bottle of shampoo

yeah, I was wonderin about that. What about for shaving? If at all possible I want to avoid taking to bottle of shaving cream... :cowboy:

I never thought of using a bar of soap in my hair... I'm trying that one out when I get home today. Its very Magiver... :torch: (sp?)

contrary to popular belief, I dont shave while traveling. Yes, Im one of "those", ya know the travelers that look like dey been out for a few years  so as far as the face goes I let it grow but Im sure you could find a little traveler set up for shaving that wouldnt consume to much space.

be careful though, the type of soap CD is suggesting is good for that, but a regular bar of soap will make your hair feel like a wire brush  stick with Ivory, Dove or Castile for best results.

The reason I use Castile is that it is all natural and comes in liquid form, so it is almost like shampoo anyway

TUI is right, don't just use any soap...Dove or Ivory work the best for me...but i know i could never pull TUI away from his Castile saop...he loves it so...

As for shaving..same thing...Ivory soap...no shaving cream to carry...

Yeah I'm an Ivory Baby as well. I like it because It doesn't have perfume in it. SO I can smell clean without having hundreds of bugs attracted to me.

Its Irish Spring all the way for me, although I've never really travelled with it. Its good for shaving and shampoo if need be. Some of that liquid soap might be worth looking into though, I don't want to be carrying around a wet bar of soap.

I like Dr. Bronner's castile lavender soap, it's good for laundry/body/hair. Or if I'm in a Lush country I snag a shampoo bar and use that for everything, and it makes me smell yummy. :)

TUI 04-03-2004 10:45 AM

yeah I use Dr Bronners as well, good stuff.

Irish Spring or Zest work well for me, mainly because if you're out in a tent exposed in the elements and forever dragging dirt, leaves and crap into the tent, this stuff leaves you pretty squeaky clean, not to mention 107 degrees on some island with no campground. And as much as it it a pain in the ass, I have to have my shampoo and conditioner seperate, bar soap just doesn't quite cut it.
:)

tecia 04-08-2004 06:22 PM

 I hear you on the shampoo and conditioner being seperate!!! with my hair bar soap would never work!!!
i do use prof. product though so you don't need as much!!! it will last all of Europe i hope
chana if you want some when you go let me know i get it retail price
