Looking for some advice in backpack shopping. I live in the middle of nowhere so I need to purchase a backpack online for Europe. I'm going for 3 weeks, 2 weeks from now, and for 6 months in Jan. I am looking for a good style for my 3 week trip that is carryon size. I'll be mainly jumping planes thoughout Europe. I'm hoping to find one with a detatchable day pack. I'm short, but I need a good size pack, if you have any ideas let me know. And, of course am a poor college student on a budget :) Thanks

when you say middle of nowhere... what's that mean exactly?

Cause just going balls to the wall and ordering a pack online without fitting is a little iffy....

Unless you have a good estimate of what size you need and how much you want to carry.

I loooove my Burton AK Assault backpack.

It's intended for backcountry snowboarding, but as such it's lightweight, waterproof, and even though it's small, is tough enough to carry a lot of weight with good enough geometry not to be a burden on your back.

On top of that, it's carry-on sized with a detachable daypack. My only complaint is that the daypack attachment scheme is a bit wonky.

I live in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan, which for all practical purposes is not practical. The nearest city with some sort of a shopping mall is 4-5 hours of a drive away, what we have here is called a shopping center. The store that carry bags similar to what I want would have to order anyways and there are better deals online.

My torso length is 17 witch is usually the difference between large and small, but I would like to have 2700 cu in of space for packing, and somewhere I can attatch a daypack. The hard part is finding one carry on size, which I may have to give up on now.

It's not my first pack, but I'm in need of a new one. Any more advice?

I would look at the Marmot Eiger series - there are 3 or 4 packs in that series. They are amongst the best on the market (imo). :cheers:

Check out this pack. I used it last year all over Europe in trains and plains. It fits easily into overhead compartments, has a removable day pack, a securtiy chain stiched deeply in it, so you can chain it down in hostels,etc... I felt it had plenty of room for my needs for a few weeks last year.
