Hey I'm going to be traveling Europe for 7 weeks this summer and will take my Northface day pack with me, however I am not sure how big of another suitcase/duffel bag to take. Any suggestions of what type or how large of another bag to take for that amount of time?

Rather than taking a suitcase or duffle, why not get a larger backpack that has a removable daypack? An Example. Much easier really.

Defiantly go with the one pack. Two packs will add alot of extra effort during your 7 weeks traveling.

When i chose my pack, it wasnt really based on the length of the trip. I packed for one week with nice shirts for going out, long pants for the cold ngihts, shorts, and tshirts. It was a enough to last me for one 3-4 days. Then i wore everything twice. That way after every week i could wash clothes and be ready for the next week. I traveled for 5 weeks. My pack was 35 liters. It was really small compared to other packs. Some people had as much as 70 liter packs.

No matter the size of pack you get, you will always be able to fill it up. The less luggage you have the better off you will be. Thats assuming your bouncing from hostel to trainstation/airport to hostel and so on.

I could have gone 10 weeks with my pack, each week i just washed and i was ready for the next. THat way you dont have to bring weeks worth of clothes. People only saw you one day. So if you wore the same thing the next day or alternated days, no one would never know. Plus, everyone else is doign the same thing haha

Pick a size that would enjoy carrying around everywhere yo ugo and see what you can fit into it. Pick one with a daypack if you can. Like i said earlier, no matter what size you get, you will alwys be able to find somethign else you could take.

i would go to the local outdoors shop and try on different packs. Get a feel for different sizes and then decide about small or big you want your pack to be.

Marmot has several...and there are other brands. Eagle Creek also has some, but I personally don't think that their removable daypack system is very practical.

I've got a REI Grand Tour with a great daypack, and my friend has a Dana Swift Traveler which is pretty nice, too, but I think it's discontinued and he got it on closeout. Dana makes Marmot and K2, and I know KCL is a fan of Marmot bags. Those are my recommendations.

Thanks guys for all your inputs and I just wanted to say I went ahead and ordered my pack, got the Marmot Eiger 55. Thanks KCL for dropping dimes of info for people like me that have little clue

i have just one larger pack, but i carry with me a small backpack for day trips. the smaller pack is a little nylon bag that is just big enough to hold my necesities for the day but its small enough that i can roll it up and it can fit just about anywhere. if u really squish it, it is probably about the size of a poncho. the detachable day packs are nice, my girlfiend has one (which i bought her) but typically they are a little more expensive and ive had luck with my bag.
i would definately suggest having some sort of bag to use as a daypack but i would advice against having it be a completely seperate bag u have to carry with you everywhere. either get a pack with a detachable day bag or do like me and just get a small nylon backpack for the day. lots of places sell them, and companies like nike, addidas, and others make them.
